My name is Persephóne. My mother calls
me Kore or Cora(in English) as a nickname, too. I am the daughter of my loving mother
Demeter - She's the goddess of the Harvest and Earth. You probably
know her well, too.I am sometimes called as the Queen of the Underworld,
but it's just the most common misconception about me..!
I was a mere happy, dreamy young maiden, when this fearsome creature
Hades abducted me when I was out taking a walk besides a beautiful pond.I was picking flowers with my friends Athena and Artermis..
Alongside with these lovely Nymphs.. We were at the field around the land called Enna.
It's not far away from Olympus but it's so different and peaceful there,
cause it's much more down close to earth. Unlike those Olympian quarrelsome
Gods, we kept it there always peaceful, calm and lovely.
You probably would like it there if you go there too..!
When this Hades bursted up through a cleft in earth, I was so shocked and frozen with fear..!
I instantly bacame like a stone and couldn't move as I was too frightened..!
I have never been that terrified in my life..
He had grabbed me and taken me by the force and the ground had split open and
it swallowed me altogether with him and the firey chariot of his. I thought I was going to die.
I was very scared and distraught.
I cried everyday and called for my mother.
The man said he loved me and wanted me to be his wife, and tried to convince
me and also promised me everything he could offer in the underworld. But I obviously wasn't happy and
i couldn't trust him neither love him. Naturally.My mother was obviously worried sick to death and she was looking for me everywhere on the earth
and the heavens too. She also asked my father, Zeus and eveyone else, but she couldn't find
me or find out anything about me.At last, my mother was in complete despair and the earth and nature stopped producing it's
own fruits and grains. You see,
without my mother's blessing, the earth and the creatures can't bear their fruits and grains.
So all the earth and the land became hungry and slowly became lifeless as well as dying, like my
mother.Zeus and the Gods were worried and had a big serious discussion. Then finally they summoned Hades to interrogate him,
so the man couldn't hide
the truth anymore. Gods found out I was there and demanded Hades to return me to my Mother,
but the rest of the story.. You probably also know well what happened.
When I found out that my mother found me and I was going to go back to her, I was deliriously happy
and didn't care what he was really saying, so when he offered me to eat something, I didn't eat anything
right until then, but i really didn't know you shouldn't eat anything when you are in the underworld.
So I took one pomergranate and ate some.
Yes! They were just four seeds of a pomergranate..! Not six, not two but four!
But apparently that was the rule that if you eat anything in the underworld then you belong to
the underworld. I was devastated and so shocked again!But my mother was a wise woman, she knew how to negotiate with the situation and compromised with
the Gods and Hades, that I could spend time with my mother for 8 months on the earth but I have
to go back to Hades for 4 months a year. I wasn't too happy or thrilled for doing this but i didn't have any
choices!
So there you go.. That's the reason why you have winters now. It's horrible, isn't it? Cold and Harsh, sharp
wind on your bare skin. Just like I was in the underworld..
It was so cold and miserable just like a dark winter night.
But I am happy now cause I am back in Enna, the land of my world.. My home!And do I hate Hades now..? No. I forgave him. He simply fell in love with me. That's all.But remember, Men in this world! Hear my words and do not abduct any women just because you like them, you see?
Or you will see Hades at the end if you like it or not. And maybe you'll get to see me too!
