Augie Rey is of Puerto Rican, Cuban, French & Chinese heritage. He was born in New York City, but has spent most of his life in Hawaii. The local residents have adopted him as a "Local Boy." For over 30 years, he has been one of the most popular singer/entertainers in the islands. His special brand of music is contagious, and a dancer's delight. He also has a loyal and dedicated following. Augie Rey plays keyboards, congas & timbales, and brings it all together with a mellow, exciting, and vibrant voice that appeals to all types of crowds. AUGIE REY and his multi-talented group can only be described as SUPERB in the musical entertainment world. AUGIE REY'S talents are displayed in his own arrangements of top tunes, and his original compositions, including ROCK, POP, LATIN SALSA, COUNTRY, JAZZ, BLUES, CONTEMPORARY HAWAIIAN, and VARIETY music. AUGIE REY has performed in numerous nightclubs, recordings, television shows, commercials, and concerts.When he first came to Hawaii in 1970, he formed one of the first Salsa Bands in Waikiki. However, he found it hard to find enough work, and changed his repertoire to include a variety of music. But he never lost sight of his Hispanic Heritage. To this day he continues to support any endeavor to unite the Hispanics of Hawaii. He is a member of HACER, & the Puerto Rican Heritage Society, and a staunch supporter of "Que Pasa Hawaii" television show.Augie Rey has had numerous Concert Appearances throughout the Western U.S. with the famous Latin American band of RENE TOUZET. This composer/pianist is world famous in the Latino World, recording over 35 albums. Augie Rey was the lead singer in his 17 piece orchestra. Having performed in the Hollywood Palladium, with the famous Machito y Graciela, La Lupe, Tito Rodriguez, Johnny Martinez, Orquesta Santurce, Vicentico Valdes, Rene Bloch, Willie "Baby" Rodriguez, Ray Medina & the New Latin Breed, Mongo Santamaria and many other local bands, is a source of pride for him.Also, at 11 years of age, he performed at the famous "Apollo Theater" with a group who later became well known as the "Dell Vikings" and had a hit record called "Come Go With Me."During the early 60's while in the Navy, he formed a Salsa band, and a Blues band, while also playing baseball for the Navy District All-Star team. When he got out of the Navy in 1963, he was signed by the California Angels and assigned to their Rookie League team in Santa Barbara. He played one year before a knee injury put him out of play, at which time his musical career took hold and never returned to his dream of playing professional baseball.While in Hawaii, he also performed at Chaminade University Drama Production of "West Side Story."His daughter Tahiti Fernandez sang one of his songs on the latest "Homegrown" album. The song "Mahalo For The Sunshine Of Your Love" was co-written by Cecilio Rodriguez of C & K. Augie Rey and Cecilio Rodriguez are co-producing Augieâs new album, to be released in early 2000. Tahiti is singing an original song of her own on the album.In addition, Augie Rey Fernandez, LUTCF, CFS, has been in the insurance and investment planning field for over 18 years. He was honored as "Salesman Of The Year - 1997." In 1982, he was honored as "International Salesman Of The Year." His credentials are numerous, including the "Certified Fund Specialist" (CFS) designation. He is currently with "The Guardian Life Insurance Co. of America."
