About Me

Michael Angel AKA Angry Angel has been playing the Philadelphia scene for the last 12 years. Most fans know him from Tower Island, which was signed to the Inde label OCI Records in 1998 The Label Gave Full Control of the production of the album to Angel, the lead singer and songwriter for the band. He created the cover illustrations, produced the album and started the marketing of the album himself. Their first self titled album was made in a rush and released in 1999. Within four weeks, the first single "Nothing Else", had gained medium rotation on 106 stations nation wide with no help from the label at all. Just when things were looking good, the label informed the band that the scheduled promotion would be canceled due to financial problems. That was a big blow to the band and caused there Break up. Then in 2002, Angel started a live Internet broadcast show called the New Rock Empire. It was designed as a platform to promote unsigned bands to the Internet market. This open the doors to set the stage for Angels current project ANGRY ANGEL. Angels new music ranges from rock to trip hop and everything in between. You'll currently find his music popping up in a verity of soundtracks being released at this time. Influences:Michael Angel from Cedar Rapids Iowa, learned to play guitar at the age of 13 on an old junk guitar from the attic. He made an amp from an old eight track stereo that he used to listen to his big brothers hand me down 8 tracks. Styx, Kansas and Queen were some of his first influences, compliments of his brothers. The guitar only had three strings; E, A, and G. This is what influenced his open string drowning style. When his mom came home and heard his stereo blaring Eruption by Van Hallen she told him to turn it down. When she realized it was him and not the stereo, she decided it was time to go out and buy him a real guitar. Over the next seven years he played guitar for various original bands, but his love for painting inspired him to move to the East Coast at the age of 20. After a year of painting and attending art school in the Philadelphia area he had his first gallery showing. It went well enough to get the painting monkey off his back but then his need to write music came back full strength. The timing was perfect because that's when he met Damon an incredible guitarist looking for a song-writing partner. This is when Angel began to become a front man. The first band the two of them formed was ADI SHAKTI, a hard rock band with Angel as the lead singer and basest and sometimes guitarist. They played the Philadelphia area for a few years before they changed their name to TOWER ISLAND. For more info read BIO above.
