ha...to tell you the truth, i am reaching an entirely new plane of consciousness, that of which is separated from the ego. It is according to the philosophy of those who were flowers of the world:Buddha, Tolle, Nietzsche, Lao Tzu, and everybody else who stressed a separation from that which is a contrived self designed by the ego. No, this is not the Freud ego haha, it's a rather different one, so don't think that is what I'm talking about. The book A New Earth literally "awakens" you to begin a path out of that egoic consciousness. What may seem to be apathy is everything but it. The ego sees it as apathy because there is no more egoic interaction that is so present in, the complete foundation of, society. It is making functioning in society very difficult and with it comes a happiness that is unknowable to those that live in the ego because of the structure of the ego. The structure is to want "more" identity rather than the content of wanting more, causing a spiral of looking to the future and past to find or hope to find identity, and upon "finding it", the structure stays, so no gratification is found. The ego looks only for identity, and find it through many things. Material objects are the easiest to understand: a child looses a toy and feels great suffering, or a man looses his fortune and feels great suffering. That is because they live through their ego, and their ego found its identity in the material. Upon loosing it, they felt to be "less" than who they were. Another source of identity is that of spirituality. "I gave up all my material possessions, so I am more humble than you, more spiritual." The third source is the most difficult to understand. The ego is your thoughts. People begin to relate their thoughts to who they are, their mind becomes their identity. This is false. The mind is the ego, and YOU are the "third voice," that which is aware of your mind. That which feels your thoughts and is aware of them, that is you. You may not have this "third voice," as it is only in those who have some separation from the ego. I have begun and am well on my way to ending the habitual ego mind, as you will notice in the great changes in my behavior. To notice the ego, look either into yourself or into others and notice if they are defending a lost argument, and placing themselves above others. Look for your or their search for identity and the self in things. Read A New Earth, for Tolle does this a lot better than I do. Ha, hope you enjoyed :).i chew on my pens
