Alexia was one of the biggest Greek stars in 80s and 90s. She has collaborated with Chick Corea, Mikis Theodorakis, John Patitucci, Mimis Plessas, Gary Novak, Kostas Tournas, Yiorgos Hadjinassios, Milva and many more great artists.Born in Famagusta (5 February 1964), she was forced with her family to leave her town as a refugeee, after the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, when the Turks captured her town along with the 37% of the Cypriot land.
In 1981 she participated in Eurovision Song Contest as part of the group 'Island'. This was Cyprus' debut in the contest and they finished a creditable 6th with their entry "Monica". Alexia represented the island again in the Eurovision Song Contest 1987 held in Brussels, taking the song "Aspro Mavro" to 7th place.After her first participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, she left Cyprus for studies at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. There, the famous American jazzist Chick Corea chose her to sing in one of his concerts and still has good relations with her.In 1985 she taught musicology, solfege and Listening Analysis in the Boston Community Center. She also attended Voice Therapy courses from Dr. Blair Macloski. Her first Album was released in America and achieved to enter the Top 100 of Billboard with the song "I am Siam".
Returning to Cyprus in 1987, she represented again her country in the Eurovision Song Contest, with the song Aspro Mavro becoming 7th. Her song sold 250,000 disks in the Scandinavian countriesAfter her success in Eurovision, she went to Greece and signed contract with Polygram for her first album. Kostas Charitodiplomenos wrote the music and Georgios Mitsiggas the lyrics. The album "Alexia" broke the sale records for a new coming artist (200.000) and the songs "Ta koritsia xenyctane", "Stalia stalia", "To xero to xero", "Agapini kalokerini", "Grammata", "Tha se perimeno", "Kanenas den mas stamata" became successfully famous. That year she appeared with Paschalis at the "On the Rocks".Two years later, with her with her album "Ena, Dyo Tria" (One, Two Three) with European sounds, she had successes with the songs "Ela Ela" (Come, Come), "Oloi theloune na xehorizoun", "Chronia Polla", "Kitaxe me", "Ena dyo tria" and her album became gold.Alexia - Ta koritsia xenyhtane
