About Me

Banbury Soul Club was formed around 4 years ago by myself , and fellow members ,Charlie , Dave ,Tom ,Steve ,and Pete .We decided to run a bi - monthly Soul night in our local town of Banbury ,Oxon ,England . We felt that as there were no Soul venues really near us , we could capture the imagination of the local [ and hopefully further afield ]Soul music collectors and dancers .We hold our events at North Newington Social club which is around 3 miles from the centre of Banbury and easy to find .The venue holds around 160 and has a great friendly atmosphere , as we play all vinyl dancable Soul music , mainly from the 60's and 70's , also we have a big screen showing footage from the 60's and 70's which is proving very popular .We also have the occasional guest DJ's ,Jo Wallace , Kenny Burrell , Derek Allen [ RIP ] ,Len Dopson , " Hitsville Chalky ,Phil Richards and Derek Meade have all graced the decks in recent years - thanks folks !! If you are interested in trying our event out , please call Eddie - 01295261796 , Charlie 01295255901 , Steve 01295271604 , Dave 01295265849 , or Tom 01295270809 to reserve tickets at £5 each .Breaking news about our new venue !!!Ever since we formed Banbury Soul Club 5 years ago , it has always been our ambition to make the club as successful , Soulful, and as enjoyable as possible for visitors, and create the ideal scene for everyone who attends our Soul nights .Although we have been very happy at North Newington Social Club , we have always felt restricted by the early 12.15am finish time , the lack of a proper wooden dance floor , and we know by feedback, that the obscure location of the club made it difficult for some travellers to find us .We now have the answer to our dreams , The LE ROYAL club in Butchers Row OX16 5JH [ for Sat Navs ] , just off the High St / Market Place , right in the centre of Banbury ,Oxon , and only 5 minutes drive off the M40 [ Jun. 11 ] . This club has recently been extensively re - furbished , has a fantastic in house sound system , great lighting , big, fully loaded bar area , huge wooden dance floor and superb comfortable seating surrounding all sides of the dance floor .Best of all , we can now run the club until 2am in the morning , which is brilliant news for everyone . Also record sellers / dealers / merchandise etc are more than welcome, as we have an ideal seperate room , with speakers piping music from the main hall .There is extensive free parking in the Market Place , or in TK Maxx's car park off Calthorpe Street , either car park is only a couple of minutes walk from the venue .Also , there are two nearby bars if you want an early drink . Bonitos Wine bar in White Lion Walk is a great bar , playing Soul music ,[ 2 minutes walk from LE ROYAL ] or The Coach and Houses pub is right next door to LE ROYAL , recently re furbished and serves great meals if you feel a bit hungry , and fancy a bite to eat , or a drink in comfortable surroundings .Our opening night is Saturday Jan . 3rd 2009 with very special guest Sean Chapman ,plus all the regular DJ's Charlie , Dave , Eddie ,Steve and Tom .The night will run from 8pm through to 2am .The music policy will be the same great mix of Northern Soul , 70's movers, 60's R & B , interesting Motown and a smattering of newer sides . We look forward to welcoming you all to our new home ,we're sure it's gonna be great !!
