About Me

The Olympia Film Society (OFS) is a 501(c)3 non-profit, volunteer-run arts organization. Our mission is to enrich the cultural resources of the South Puget Sound area by broadening access to film and the allied arts and by encouraging a deeper understanding of the film medium. We also seek to maintain high standards of participatory decision-making, promoting the spirit of an active volunteer society among our membership. Each year, OFS presents eight film series running six weeks a piece. These series offer the best in international, independent and award winning films—movies that have been recognized at major film festivals like Cannes, Sundance, Toronto, Tribeca, and Berlin. These weekly presentations of independent and international cinema provide Olympia and the surrounding community access to a national and international dialogue. Additional special one-time-only screenings feature visiting filmmakers and mixed media performance artists; We also host a variety of live events throughout the year, from live music to internationally acclaimed lecturers. Each fall, OFS presents the annual Olympia Film Festival, a ten-day extravaganza of around-the-clock films, film-related guests, special performances, wacky sideshows, discussion panels, and live music. Even though the festival is well known and respected in the film world, the effort that makes it happen is 100% local. The festival attracts around 10,000 attendees each year.
