The Porch Cats first met by some cosmic coincidence on the streets of Austin, TX, busking for dollar bills during SXSW on the eve of March 14, 2008. Jackie Rae had come fresh from Chicago Illinois with the heart of a Dharma Bum, having already traveled far across the U.S. and beyond looking for the right scene to make friends and folk music. Dusty Lee was straight out of Houston TX, flat broke, and trying to make a few bucks to pay for his stay at the local south Austin Hostel, jamming with homeless street musicians for which he was soon to join the ranks. Chase Holbrook, a fiercely passionate songwriter and performer was always looking for more in music than convention had to offer, and found that and more in combination with the jiving sound of Jackie's fiddle and Dusty's African hand drum.
