Hi there. So this is where I'm supposed to talk about myself...well, I'm Alex Yamada. I'm an 19-year-old graduate of Granite Bay High School, although I attended Del Oro High School from my freshman to early junior years. Currently, I am attending Yuba College in Marysville, CA.
I'm 3/4 Japanese and DAMN proud of it. I speak a fair amount of the language and I've studied Karate, Kendo, Kyudo, Judo and various other martial arts since I was a 6 or 7. I'm samurai by blood (sorry, my white friends, it's not about being able to use a sword, it's something you're born as...)and my lineage descends from the Watanabe Clan of Sendai Province. To answer a few questions before they even come up: No, I am not a ninja. No, I do not like anime. Sadly, no, I am not good at math like the rest of my Asian brethren. And finally, yes, there are MANY distinct differences between the Japanese and the Chinese...the key one being that we (the Japanese) are just flat out better.
My interests include writing, martial arts, theatre and film. I've been performing on stage for the past three years at both Del Oro and Granite Bay. I've been doing independant film for almost 5 years now, having started with Orthodox Films then breaking off to create Rising Sun Studios. Our first film, "echo." went on to win three awards (Best Screenwriting, Best Cinematography and Best Individual Performance) at a local school film festival and can be viewed directly below this section. We have been on hiatus due to personal reasons and are in the early pre-production stages of our next film right now.
I also like to dabble in photography. Check out some of my work at Deviant Art ( http://theasian231.deviantart.com/ ).
Other than that, I'm pretty much your average young adult. I love my friends more than anything, I'm content to just hang out (even if we end up doing nothing) and I love meeting new people. If you wanna chat, add me to MSN @
[email protected] . Hope to hear from ya!
echo.
This is "echo.", Rising Sun Studios' first short film. I wrote and co-directed it with Steven Esparsa and Jorge Connelly in early 2006 and it went on to win Best Screenwriting (Me), Best Cinematography (Steven Esparsa and Jorge Connelly) and Best Individual Performance (Kyle Wheeler) at the Del Oro Film Festival. We filmed, edited and had the final product done in a single week, and to this day it remains one of my favorite accomplishments.
