THE UPRISING FESTIVAL 2008:
Founded by a couple of wayward 15 year olds back in 2000, as an initiative to give the youth some live music. The First “Festival†only had 4 bands and just over hundred people (known as Punk Uprisings). Like everything in Durban things slowly progressed, with more and more bands becoming interested in the event. The organisers had to start turning bands away and instead of having only 4 bands, with 1 stage there where now over 30 bands and other performers with 4 events and multiple stages. The event has progressed and matured in leaps and bounds, and for 2008 its promises to be a major event in the South African music calendar. It will showcase SA’s top talent, the bands that people want to see and the bands that are working hard in the scene and doing things for themselves. The event is reflective of our country and the “New South African Culture†that is growing, and the event takes pride in Durban City and South Africa on the whole.
