/div RIP OG StyleI’ve just received word that Houston hip hop pioneer Eric “OG Style†Woods passed away yesterday due to complications stemming from a brain hemorrhage. Woods, pka The E, was one of the first acts signed to Rap-a-Lot (at the time OG Style was a duo including producer Big Boss, who also passed about a year ago). Their shamefully out of print 1991 debut, I Know How To Play ‘Em, is an overlooked boom bap classic that would have even the staunchest of southern rap haters nodding his head.Regards to Woods’ family and friends. Bun B says:First, let me say RIP PIMP C and UGK4LIFE! OG Style was one of the most influential rap groups ever to come out of or represent Houston as well as Texas. They helped put Rapalot Records and the H-Town rap scene of the hip-hop map, and I as well as any other Houston MC should be eternally grateful for that. They helped to open doors and create opportunities that future generations are still able to take advantage of. Also, E was a great friend and mentor to myself as well as Pimp. His advice at different times in my career was truly priceless, and I held him in high regards not only as an artist but as a man. It is again a dark time in Houston, because we have truly lost a legend and leader. E, along with Big Boss(who by the way was the original producer of “One Day†), will be missed dearly, but their legacy lives on due to the catalog of great music they let behind. Oh, by the way, these songs ARE BETTER than anything UGK ever did. This is the music that built us, and without OG STYLE, there would be no UGK. I’m not gonna bite Bol, so let it go Mike B of T.G.C. says:Yo this is the dopest dude I ever , ever, ever delt with on the mic in the studio. Must respect goes out to this dudes work ethic. Just like Dee of Trinity Garden Cartel this guys gets done with a project like a soldier with a mission. I had lots of fun and learn a lot from youâ€E†- I’ll surely miss you. You was always my one phone secret weapon that I always knew I had in my corner. I shall get with the family and make sure your legacy of music goes on through your sons. “So to the world I say be on the look out for the new project of OG styles coming sooooooner than later!!!!!!!â€. Peace and RIP - “Rock the stage in Heaven manâ€January 5th, 2008 at 1:28 am Mark says:Bun and Matt-Thanks for that. I not only worked with OG on his last CD, Return of the Game, which Bun and H-Town legend K-Rino did a legendary track with OG, but I grew up with him. Believe me when I tell you that the dude was fire from the beginning. He helped put H-town on the map when the rapp world was only talking about New York. If you haven’t heard anything after the Catchem Slippin album or never got a chance to see him perform, you truely have missed listening to or seeing GENIUS. Bun-I don’t know if you got a chance to talk to him lately, but I called him while listening to Country Cousins to tell him that yall gave him a shout out and he was estatic. He wanted to thank you. The entire rapp world has lost royalty as there is no doubt that a lot of the present rappers was influenced by OG and wanted to get into the game because of what they heard from him. for more info on OG and to here his work-go to www.HardEdgeEntertainment.com and www.OGSTYLE. net.Peace,MarkKOO-ROD says:I was brought up by “E†& BIG BOSS they thought me what this so called game was about do for self as much as you can and always be willing to learn more. I wanted to be a rapper BOSS said become our roadie and see how these rappers you want to be like get treated. He will forever be missed by me i never got over BOSS but could deal with it as long as “E†was around now i have lost them both………….KOO-ROD of 4-DEEPklas one says:R.I.P OG STYLE BIG BOSS AND E STILL DEEP 4 LIFE MattSonzala says:I seriously REMEMBER when I bought the original tape at Soundwaves on South main.
