About Me
Greetings from Connecticut!
I live in a lovely town in a 100+ yr old house which is slightly falling apart. My sweet daughter, Anneliese lives here and my three sons are grown and on their own.
We live with and love four cats and one incredible Dalmatian. Parler-vous, Katie, Hercules, and Sophie are the cats and Domino is the dog.
Professionally I have been a Registered Nurse (neurology) for over 20 years. In Dec 2002 I was badly injured and have been unable to work. I've had lots of treatments to my back including a spinal fusion about a year ago. I am in pain 24 hr/day, 7 days/wk.
Next on the "menu" is a spinal cord stimulator. I try to maintain a good and positive attitude and not complain. Every once in a while though, it gets to me. With all the trials of being in pain and things that I love which I can no longer do, it's still a good life and I find so much each day for which to be thankful. I am still hopeful that I will be able to go back to my profession soon. Never lose hope; that's the dream killer.
I am brave and courageous and wish to try new things. I love history, especially Medieval history.
My favorite music genre is Baroque, I appreciate most classical forms and, being a late baby-boomer, love classic rock. Jim Morrison is alive in my heart. I could listen to Zeppelin and Pink Floyd all day. Sometime I do! Additional favorites are The Who, Yes, Steve Winwood, Traffic, David Bowie, U2, Queen, and on and on. I also love traditional Celtic music.
I prefer being outdoors; hiking, running (still looking forward to MD's permission to run again since I have had back surgery).
I love the sea, long walks, fireworks, Earl Grey tea, roses, thunderstorms, fresh cherries, lace, perfume, pizza, English literature, Victoria's Secret, Clinique Aromatic Elixir, lavender, sweet smiles, the smell of apples and cinnamon baking, holding hands, Christmastime, Thomas 'a Kempis, poetry, long hair, Django Reinhardt, cooking, autumn, tie-dye, old movies, ice cream, warm oil massage, candle light, laughter, art museums, incense, bagpipes, beautiful feminine dresses, spending time with my children.
I do not watch television.
I have been a vegetarian for more than half of my life.
I am an avid reader. I love reading aloud one-to-another.
I am fortunate to have fine friends and amazing children who, now that they are nearly grown, have also become my friends. I love them dearly. They are the true joy in my life.
UPDATE: FEB '08!!!
The spinal cord stimulator has been nearly a miracle in my life. No, I will never be pain-free or "normal" (who can describe normal?) again, but I can do so much more of what I love-and with less discomfort and/or pain.
I am so happy and grateful. I will be glad to share my experience, strength, and hope with anyone who is experiencing any phase of the back surgery labyrinth
