Im sure you have heard of me...Sex Goddess of the 20th Century. I was born in L.A. under the name Norma Jeane. I bounced around orphanages for a couple years and then a close friend of the family took me in for awhile. I moved around some and got married when I was 16 to Jim Dougherty, he joined the Marines & was shipped off to the South Pacific in '44. I found work at a factory in an assembly line for awhile, when one day a photographer seen a photograph of me & 2 years later he made me a reputable model. I then signed with Blue Book Modeling Agency in '46.I signed with Columbia Pictures and MGM. My career took off...although Jimmy & I sadly divorced. I went on to play small roles in a series of films. The roles got bigger as time moved on. In '50 I signed a 7 year contract with FOX. Next thing I knew, more and more movies were being made, I was all over magazine covers, I was invited to every social event there was,I even got to leave my prints outside Grauman's Chinese Theater alongside Jane Russell; after making Gentelman Perfer Blondes. I then signed a recording contract with RCA. In '54 I married baseball superstar Joe DiMaggio. Unfortunately, my fame and sexual image became a theme that haunted our marriage. Nine months later we divorced. We attributed the split to a "conflict of careers," and remained close friends. About that time I was ready to shed my "shallow blonde" image,it had gotten me into the spotlight but now I had the opportunity to really shine! I wanted to pursue serious acting. So I took a hiatus from Hollywood and moved to New York City to study under Lee Strasberg at his Actors' Studio. In '56, I started my own motion picture company, Marilyn Monroe Productions. The company produced Bus Stop and The Prince and the Showgirl. These two films allowed me to demonstrate my talent and versatility as an actress. I did receive further recognition for Some Like It Hot, winning a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy. June 1956 I remarried to playwright Arthur Miller. We met through Lee Strasberg and I admit he made me "gitty" While we were married, Arthur wrote the part of Roslyn Taber in 1961's The Misfits especially for me. The movie co-starred Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift. Sadly, our marriage ended in January 1961 and The Misfits was to be my (and Gable's) last completed film. At the 1962 Golden Globes, I was named female World Film Favorite. How exciting? But sadly, in a shocking turn of events on the early morning of August 5, 1962, I died in my sleep at my Brentwood, California home at the age of 36. On August 8, 1962, my body was laid to rest in the Corridor of Memories, #24, at Westwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California.
