War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decay and degrated state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks nothing is worth fighting for is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight for, nothing he cares for more than his own personnel safety, is a miserable creature, who has no chance of being free. Unless made and kept so by the extersions, and sacrifices of better men than himself. I have seen the face of many evils, and fought for the freedom of others. I will sacrifice what i must, and i will do what i have to do, to save others, and preserve our freedom. ... and all i ask is miss me when im gone
