Since picking up his first guitar at the age of 11 (a Fender Squier Stratocaster), Matt Brockelman's natural talents as an musician and a song-writer have been constantly evolving. What started as a passion for learning to play Blink-182 and Sum 41 songs of the late 1990s and early 2000s has steadily become more and more focused and personal. Matt has experimented with many different sounds. After playing solely electric guitars for the first few years of his musical existence, he has now transitioned to a more dominant acoustic style, a style which fits his personality perfectly.
Drawing off of cornerstone acoustic-style acts such as Dashboard Confessional, Daphne Loves Derby, and Secondhand Serenade among others, Matt sets his soul free through his music. When asked about what makes this acoustic genre so special, he replied: "I love the way these artists are able to capture a specific mood, a feeling, and so intensely replicate it into a musical form. I firmly believe that while songs that fit one's mood are great at the time, the best kind of song is one that actually changes one's mood as he or she listens. That's a goal for which I'm constantly striving; if one of my listeners can jump into my mindset and feelings as he or she listens to a song I've composed, I know that I have created something special."
As Matt, only 18 years old now, continues to hone in on his sound and songwriting experience, it will be interesting to see where he goes. This is an exciting time as the Acoustic genre continues to gain support and a wider array of talent, and we can't wait to see how Matt contributes.
