I love building things out of wood and I love to surf the pavement. So, the only natural thing to do with that is do build things on which to surf the pavement...out of wood. I really dig the classic look of a solid wood board. Not to down on playwood or fiberglass boards. They have benifits of their own, but i have always been a fan of things that look natural.
I have been using woods like flame maple, oak, black cherry, black ash and elm to laminate these and soon hope to try out some new woods. The maple, cherry and oak are super hard and heavy which gives you a relativly heavy board...naturally. This will help with the momentum of your downhill journey. Ash and elm, while lighter in weight, are equally tough. Ash is used for axe handles, so it must be able to stand up to some shock. Elm is, because of the way the grain runs, very hard to split.
Please Check out some of the pics I have up and feel free to comment. This is a new site, so it will be kind of bare for a while. If you know anyone that longboards, pass this on to them and see what they think. Thanks
