About Me

Not much to tell, really - I'm just someone trying to find my way through life like everyone else. It's not always easy - some days I feel like I'm in way over my head - but I'm still trying...
That paragraph has been your introduction to me for the better part of two years now. In a lot of ways it still applies, but I've also seen a lot of changes since I wrote those words. You've probably seen them too, and you've probably even played a role - I've found my life taking me in directions I never quite expected, and met some incredible friends along the way.
There's a great passage from an essay by Ray Bradbury that does a much better job of getting across what I'm trying to say:
"That is the kind of life I've had. Drunk, and in charge of a bicycle, as an Irish police report once put it. Drunk with life, that is, and not knowing where off to next. But you're on your way before dawn. And the trip? Exactly one half terror, exactly one half exhilaration."
I've only been drunk once in the last 36 years, and there weren't any bicycles around, so that part doesn't really fit. And I don't know if I've ever truly been "drunk with life", though it's something I aspire to. But the terror? The exhilaration? I've felt ALL of it in the last year. I feel it now. And if I don't know where I'm going ... well, maybe that's not the point. Maybe it is just about the journey.
Thank you for sharing it with me.

My Interests

Music, literature, theatre, and (of course) film. I'm fascinated by the possibilities of the medium, and thrilled by those moments when it lives up to them.

I'm a member of the Texas Motion Picture Alliance and the Texas Music Coalition . They're both great organizations dedicated to furthering the cause of the local arts, and I'm proud to be part of the fight.

I'd like to meet:

Interesting people who enjoy a good conversation, especially if it's about books or movies. I'm always up for a chat, so feel free to send me a message if you'd like to compare notes.

Or you could just leave one here:

Music:

I'm just getting into the local music scene here, and there's so much great talent here that I can't believe I missed out on it for so long. But I'm trying to make up for it now. There's so much great music in Texas - ELLE , Luis Arizpe , Laura Marie , Monte Montgomery , and so many more - and I'll try to spotlight it here when I can.

Out of state, my tastes are pretty ... electic. Among the artists and groups that are (or should be) in my collection: Barenaked Ladies, The Beatles, David Bowie, Jonatha Brooke, Dave Brubeck, Jeff Buckley, The Byrds, Aaron Copland, Miles Davis, Dido, Dire Straits, the Finn brothers in all their various combinations (if you remember Split Enz, then I already like you), The Flaming Lips, Peter Frampton (yes, I admit it, I own the Deluxe Edition of Frampton Comes Alive), Thea Gilmore, Gorillaz, Vince Guaraldi, pretty much anything Glen Hansard touches, John Hiatt, Interpol, Gary Jules, Aimee Mann, Sarah McLachlan, Moby, Michael Penn, Sam Phillips, Otis Redding, R.E.M., Squeeze, Talking Heads, James Taylor, The Temptations, U2, Ralph Vaughan Williams, The Verve, Neil Young, Warren Zevon. I'm always open to suggestions, so if you hear something you think I might like, feel free to send me a note about it.

Movies:

See myspace.com/thelivingroomtheater. ;o)

Television:

Current: House, Lost, My Name Is Earl, and the Discovery and History Channels (especially Engineering an Empire - that's a fantastic show). Past: The Office (original BBC version), Taxi, The Prisoner, Jeeves and Wooster, and lots of detective shows from the 70s.

Books:

Truth is, I'll read just about anything. So again, if you have any suggestions, I'm more than happy to hear them. Fire away...

Heroes:

My family, my close friends - anybody who keeps struggling and fighting to overcome the circumstances of their lives and find something better.
