Sonmi Suite was formed in late 2006 in Asheville, North Carolina, when David Mathes, Mike McBride, and Robert Garmhausen began live-mixing their electronic compositions together. Through their synonymous expression and awareness of harmony, texture, meter, (a)symmetry, and the analogous relationship of predictability and unpredictability, they were immediately able to create music that smeared multiple genres together. Their live set includes sounds that have been created from scratch by using synthesizers, samplers, computers, and effects, as well as real time manipulations of acoustic instruments. Sonmi Suite continues to create new sounds and arrange them in a way in which the listener is able to use their imagination.
