- ABOUT ME -
- I've been on here since 2003. Woo. I remember when no one gave a shit about myspace and you just joined to find friends you already knew.
- What I do for fun is pretty varied. While some if it is your usual mundane crap (going out for coffee, getting a drink or two, going to concerts, etc), I have a number of exceedingly geeky pursuits I enjoy as well. I recently started learning medieval illumination and calligraphy, I teach myself random languages just for the fuck of it, and I absolutely adore Chinese period films where everything is disgustingly pretty, but plenty of asses are kicked amid all the prettiness. Want to get on my good side real fast? Talk nerdy to me!
- I am Ukrainian by blood, but Dirty Jerz by birth (well... technically I was born in Philadelphia). As a native of the Northeast USA (mmmm... megalopolis), I admit I tend to think that everything between the East and West coasts is a bit odd, and I'm vaguely weirded out when people are overly friendly. Nonetheless, I've always thought of myself much more as a global citizen rather than my specific nationality.
- I am strong like bull and unnaturally good at tetris. I also possess some absolutely useless talents, such as being able to sing entire songs in languages I don't speak (with excellent pronounciation at that) and the uncanny ability to turn everyday situations into history lessons. My friends, bless their hearts, have to put up with this frequently. European history through 1650, the ancient world (Rome, Greece, and Egypt), and ancient China and Japan are all life-long interests of mine. American History, however, I tend to find boring.
- I hold a Bachelors Degree in History of Art from Bryn Mawr College. My specialty is medieval art and manuscripts. There's always love in my heart for the Mawr and fellow Mawrtyrs
- I fully profess to be a bit of a game nerd. Playstation is my primary platform, but I've been thoroughly enjoying my Nintendo Wii as well. The list of games I love is pretty long and I've always been a big Square/Enix and old-school Legend of Zelda fan, but it's KOEI that really does it for me. I adore both Dynasty Warriors as well as Samurai Warriors, but it's Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War that I'm now waiting with bated breath for. I've always said that I'd hold off buying a PS3 until Final Fantasy XIII was released, but I think it's actually gonna be Bladestorm that sells me. I'm a medieval nerd. Give me a game where I can play as Joan of Arc or Edward the Black Prince and I'll run right out and buy it

- I'm (reasonably) Bilingual. English is my native language and I have a decent command of French (I read and understand better than I speak and write). My French has gotten pretty rusty, unfortunately, and I really want to practice more so I can improve it. I also have a strong background in Latin and love learning languages in general. I'm hoping to study German, Italian, or both in the future. I honestly wish I was able to speak Ukrainian too, for the obvious reasons. I can read and write in Cyrillic, but speaking and understanding the language is another story entirely. I'll change that someday.
-Traveling is something I like to do as frequently as I can. Currently, I have visited 3 different continents and the following nations (excluding the US): France, Iceland, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, The UK (England and Scotland), Monaco, Japan, Canada, Israel. I'm planning on relocating to Scotland for postgraduate research in a year or two!
- When it comes to the subject of politics, I dislike them and generally prefer keeping discussion of my own political beliefs to a minimum. While I usually lean to the left, particularly when it comes to broader social issues, I don't follow party lines at all. For the most part, I think the general state of US politics is an absolute fucking mess in all areas.
- As far as religion is concerned, while I do not personally care for organized religion or strictly viewing existence in terms of a single world view, I find religions of all sorts fascinating nonetheless. Belief, to me, is a very private and individual matter. My own beliefs are primarily Pagan-based (Nordic pantheon), though I take interest in Buddhist and other Eastern spiritual philosophy. These beliefs are personal, I chose to believe what I want, and I expect the things I believe to remain that way. As best I can, I try to respect the beliefs of others, even if I find them beyond my scope of plausibilty, as long as my own beliefs are treated with respect as well. Generally, I prefer to avoid the company of those who choose to push what they believe onto others, as well as those who are preachy or self-righteous. Something tells me folks like that could use a lot of self-exploration.
- Music is my greatest passion in life. I love listening to many kinds of music, working with and hanging out with musicians, and generally everything about it. Remember that scene in Garden State where Natalie Portman tells Zack Braff that The Shins will change his life? If you know me in any capacity, you know I'll give you similar recommendations
- I'm a musician who plays Guitar, Bass, and Piano. I have a strong preference for bass and used to play in an indie/hardcore band called Meridien towards the end of their life span. It was a good time, I really wouldn't mind being in a band again at some point. One of my life goals is to learn to play the Bandura... at least if I can ever get my hands on one. I'm hoping to get ahold of a bouzouki at some point, too... and I'd love to try my hand at the shamisen.
- I can be something of an introvert, but at the same time I'm the kind of person who enjoys to be social and make people laugh. I pride myself in my intelligence and my sense of humor. When it comes to anything that matters to me, be it life, love, music, or anything else, I'm a very passionate person. If you're important to me, you'll know it.
- DJ INFO -
- I have been a working nightclub DJ since 2000. Generally, I've worked under the name DJ Totentanz, though I have a second alias (which I largely have not been public with just yet) which I plan on DJing and producing under in the near future. I am open to taking selective gigs and invite anyone wanting more information about what I do to contact me.
- At present, I am one of the resident DJs for LUXX, held every Tuesday at Whiskey Dix, right next to the Electric Factory (it's a great party with a super cheap cover! Come support!). Additionally, I spin regularly at Mona Lisa Overdrive at The M Room and I am also resident DJ for RISE, a regular electro party in Philadelphia hosted by Molly Mixx Productions. Currently, our night is on hiatus but will hopefully be making a return soon!
- Most of my club work has been at Industrial/EBM/Electro focused events, though I find sticking completely to those specific genres quite boring. Spinning Hard Trance/NRG, Techno, and random Europop is where I truly have the most fun. Different genres of electronic dance music often have more in common than people realize, so I enjoy crafting hard-hitting, beat-driven sets that fare well on dance floors both in and out of the "dark scene".
- Past Gigs: Rise @ The Barbary (current resident, Phila, PA), Electroluxx @ National Mechanics (current resident, Phila, PA), For Our Friend Frank @ Shampoo (Phila, PA), Mona Lisa Overdrive @ The M Room (Phila, PA) Nocturne @ Shampoo (Phila, PA), Ultimatum 3 (Phila, PA), Ceremony (Pittsburgh, PA), Nemesis 2 (NYC, NY), S.I.N. (Lyon, France), Sin City (Phila, PA), Sin Thursdays (Trenton, NJ + Phila, PA), Re:Lapse Fridays @ QXT's (Newark, NJ), Blasphemy Saturdays @ QXT's (Newark, NJ), The Gathering (Phila, PA), Revolution (resident, 03-04, Phila, PA), Shock Therapy (Phila, PA), Electrosekt (Phila, PA), Alchemy (Washington, DC), Flux Fridays (Trenton, NJ), assorted private parties, and some I probably forgot...
- Equipment: Technics SL1210MK2 turntables (2), Apple iPods: 40GB and 80GB, Pioneer CMX3000 dual CD player, Pioneer DJM3000 4-channel mixer w/FX, Numark iDJ iPod mixer, Stanton Trackmaster II SK cartridges, Sony MDRV700DJ headphones, JBL EON Power15 400-Watt powered PA enclosures (2)
