About Me

conquest. love. self-perseverence.
..................... i glorify myself..................

- ABOUT ME -
- I've been on here since 2003. Woo. I remember when no one gave a shit about myspace and you just joined to find friends you already knew.

- What I do for fun is pretty varied. While some if it is your usual mundane crap (going out for coffee, getting a drink or two, going to concerts, etc), I have a number of exceedingly geeky pursuits I enjoy as well. I recently started learning medieval illumination and calligraphy, I teach myself random languages just for the fuck of it, and I absolutely adore Chinese period films where everything is disgustingly pretty, but plenty of asses are kicked amid all the prettiness. Want to get on my good side real fast? Talk nerdy to me!
- I am Ukrainian by blood, but Dirty Jerz by birth (well... technically I was born in Philadelphia). As a native of the Northeast USA (mmmm... megalopolis), I admit I tend to think that everything between the East and West coasts is a bit odd, and I'm vaguely weirded out when people are overly friendly. Nonetheless, I've always thought of myself much more as a global citizen rather than my specific nationality.

- I am strong like bull and unnaturally good at tetris. I also possess some absolutely useless talents, such as being able to sing entire songs in languages I don't speak (with excellent pronounciation at that) and the uncanny ability to turn everyday situations into history lessons. My friends, bless their hearts, have to put up with this frequently. European history through 1650, the ancient world (Rome, Greece, and Egypt), and ancient China and Japan are all life-long interests of mine. American History, however, I tend to find boring.

- I hold a Bachelors Degree in History of Art from Bryn Mawr College. My specialty is medieval art and manuscripts. There's always love in my heart for the Mawr and fellow Mawrtyrs

- I fully profess to be a bit of a game nerd. Playstation is my primary platform, but I've been thoroughly enjoying my Nintendo Wii as well. The list of games I love is pretty long and I've always been a big Square/Enix and old-school Legend of Zelda fan, but it's KOEI that really does it for me. I adore both Dynasty Warriors as well as Samurai Warriors, but it's Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War that I'm now waiting with bated breath for. I've always said that I'd hold off buying a PS3 until Final Fantasy XIII was released, but I think it's actually gonna be Bladestorm that sells me. I'm a medieval nerd. Give me a game where I can play as Joan of Arc or Edward the Black Prince and I'll run right out and buy it

- I'm (reasonably) Bilingual. English is my native language and I have a decent command of French (I read and understand better than I speak and write). My French has gotten pretty rusty, unfortunately, and I really want to practice more so I can improve it. I also have a strong background in Latin and love learning languages in general. I'm hoping to study German, Italian, or both in the future. I honestly wish I was able to speak Ukrainian too, for the obvious reasons. I can read and write in Cyrillic, but speaking and understanding the language is another story entirely. I'll change that someday.

-Traveling is something I like to do as frequently as I can. Currently, I have visited 3 different continents and the following nations (excluding the US): France, Iceland, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, The UK (England and Scotland), Monaco, Japan, Canada, Israel. I'm planning on relocating to Scotland for postgraduate research in a year or two!

- When it comes to the subject of politics, I dislike them and generally prefer keeping discussion of my own political beliefs to a minimum. While I usually lean to the left, particularly when it comes to broader social issues, I don't follow party lines at all. For the most part, I think the general state of US politics is an absolute fucking mess in all areas.

- As far as religion is concerned, while I do not personally care for organized religion or strictly viewing existence in terms of a single world view, I find religions of all sorts fascinating nonetheless. Belief, to me, is a very private and individual matter. My own beliefs are primarily Pagan-based (Nordic pantheon), though I take interest in Buddhist and other Eastern spiritual philosophy. These beliefs are personal, I chose to believe what I want, and I expect the things I believe to remain that way. As best I can, I try to respect the beliefs of others, even if I find them beyond my scope of plausibilty, as long as my own beliefs are treated with respect as well. Generally, I prefer to avoid the company of those who choose to push what they believe onto others, as well as those who are preachy or self-righteous. Something tells me folks like that could use a lot of self-exploration.

- Music is my greatest passion in life. I love listening to many kinds of music, working with and hanging out with musicians, and generally everything about it. Remember that scene in Garden State where Natalie Portman tells Zack Braff that The Shins will change his life? If you know me in any capacity, you know I'll give you similar recommendations

- I'm a musician who plays Guitar, Bass, and Piano. I have a strong preference for bass and used to play in an indie/hardcore band called Meridien towards the end of their life span. It was a good time, I really wouldn't mind being in a band again at some point. One of my life goals is to learn to play the Bandura... at least if I can ever get my hands on one. I'm hoping to get ahold of a bouzouki at some point, too... and I'd love to try my hand at the shamisen.

- I can be something of an introvert, but at the same time I'm the kind of person who enjoys to be social and make people laugh. I pride myself in my intelligence and my sense of humor. When it comes to anything that matters to me, be it life, love, music, or anything else, I'm a very passionate person. If you're important to me, you'll know it.

- DJ INFO -
- I have been a working nightclub DJ since 2000. Generally, I've worked under the name DJ Totentanz, though I have a second alias (which I largely have not been public with just yet) which I plan on DJing and producing under in the near future. I am open to taking selective gigs and invite anyone wanting more information about what I do to contact me.

- At present, I am one of the resident DJs for LUXX, held every Tuesday at Whiskey Dix, right next to the Electric Factory (it's a great party with a super cheap cover! Come support!). Additionally, I spin regularly at Mona Lisa Overdrive at The M Room and I am also resident DJ for RISE, a regular electro party in Philadelphia hosted by Molly Mixx Productions. Currently, our night is on hiatus but will hopefully be making a return soon!

- Most of my club work has been at Industrial/EBM/Electro focused events, though I find sticking completely to those specific genres quite boring. Spinning Hard Trance/NRG, Techno, and random Europop is where I truly have the most fun. Different genres of electronic dance music often have more in common than people realize, so I enjoy crafting hard-hitting, beat-driven sets that fare well on dance floors both in and out of the "dark scene".

- Past Gigs: Rise @ The Barbary (current resident, Phila, PA), Electroluxx @ National Mechanics (current resident, Phila, PA), For Our Friend Frank @ Shampoo (Phila, PA), Mona Lisa Overdrive @ The M Room (Phila, PA) Nocturne @ Shampoo (Phila, PA), Ultimatum 3 (Phila, PA), Ceremony (Pittsburgh, PA), Nemesis 2 (NYC, NY), S.I.N. (Lyon, France), Sin City (Phila, PA), Sin Thursdays (Trenton, NJ + Phila, PA), Re:Lapse Fridays @ QXT's (Newark, NJ), Blasphemy Saturdays @ QXT's (Newark, NJ), The Gathering (Phila, PA), Revolution (resident, 03-04, Phila, PA), Shock Therapy (Phila, PA), Electrosekt (Phila, PA), Alchemy (Washington, DC), Flux Fridays (Trenton, NJ), assorted private parties, and some I probably forgot...

- Equipment: Technics SL1210MK2 turntables (2), Apple iPods: 40GB and 80GB, Pioneer CMX3000 dual CD player, Pioneer DJM3000 4-channel mixer w/FX, Numark iDJ iPod mixer, Stanton Trackmaster II SK cartridges, Sony MDRV700DJ headphones, JBL EON Power15 400-Watt powered PA enclosures (2)

I may also be contacted through:
AIM. MSN. SKYPE.

MORE REALISTICALLY...

Should you happen to fall into at least one of the following categories, please don't hesitate to contact me:

- Folks I already know offline (from Bryn Mawr, from high school, anyone I befriended in my travels, etc.).

- Women from Europe :D ! Yessssssssss. Call it a weakness, hehe...

- Scots, especially those in the Glasgow or Edinburgh areas. I visited Scotland for the first time in October 2006, returned in May 2007, and absolutely fell in love with the place. I'm beginning the process of applying to PhD programs in the aforementioned areas and am doing what I can to establish a friend base in advance. I know some truly wonderful, amazing folks in Scotland, but more are always welcome. Especially if the near future might find me living there indefinitely.

- Art Historians, Artists, or general Art Appreciators. Aww hell, anyone who wants to find the hidden porn in medieval art.

- Bond. James Bond. Or better yet, Bond girls or Bond villians.

- Avid, yet completely unpretentious readers. But readers of interesting things, be it fiction or non-fiction... none of that Oprah's Book Club crap for me.

- Proud graduates of the Seven Sisters. We're like the Marine Corps of liberal arts colleges.

- LGBT folks into things other than typical so-called "gay" fare. Like gay metalheads, for example. I know there's more of us out there than people think! Or anyone else who's never felt all that at home in the gay scene. If you're completely comfortable and matter-of-fact about your gayness, but still feel like you stick out like a sore thumb at a pride parade, we'd probably get along. I'm very out, I'm very proud, but just like anything else, I've always believed that being gay should NOT be the most interesting thing about you nor the sole defining factor of your identity.

- Icelanders. I'll be visiting Iceland during the summer of 2007. I'll mainly be doing some sightseeing, but I'd love to make some friends to hang out with at night, particularly in and around Reykjavik. This gives me a year to find a few of you!

- Football (and by that I mean soccer) fans. I don't get to see many games, but I keep up on the goings on via the internet. These days, I mainly follow the Scottish premier league, though I also enjoy French Division 1, and I'm a Feyenoord fan even though I don't really follow the Dutch leagues as a whole. I adore AS Roma as well, they're one of my very favorite teams, but there's so much bullshit happening within the Calcio that my interest in the league as a whole has waned.

- Audiophiles and people with similar music tastes (and mine are pretty varied) who aren't into the "scene" aspect, whatever scene that may be. Too much damn drama!

- Someone to help me practice my French. I've gotten very rusty over the past few years and I really need to improve again. I miss France horribly and I'd love to get to know some more people over there.

- New Non-US friends willing to entertain me when I go abroad

- Fellow Ukrainians (in Ukraine, in North America, or elsewhere)

- Pagans, especially those following or interested in Norse, Slavic, Celtic, or Greco-Roman pantheonic traditions. However, don't bother if you think European pagan traditions have anything to do with bigotry and hatred.

- Anyone appreciative of the work of Dario Argento. Also, any fans of Asia Argento, the music of Goblin, Giallo, Fulci, Bava, or Italian horror as a whole.

- Other DJs and/or Producers from around the world... especially those who can hold a conversation about something other than DJing. Being a DJ is awesome, but I'm no one-trick pony.

- Nerds, Dorks, Geeks, and people who like console RPGs a little too much

- Anyone who shares my interests or has a good deal in common with me... unless you're an idiot. Then forget it.

- Anyone on this completely unrealistic list: Gong Li, Richard Sharpe, Jean Cocteau, Indiana Jones, Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley, Daffyth Thomas, Erik the Red, Ennio Morricone, Pee Wee Herman, Katherine Haughton Hepburn (BMC '28), Anna Magnani (circa 1950s), Olivia Magnani, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Leni Riefenstahl

PLEASE READ BEFORE ADDING ME

- If I don't already know you, I appreciate being sent a message before you add me. However, I'm not a Nazi about it. If we have a lot in common or there's something I find intriguing about you, you can definitely get away with not doing it

- Please feel free to send me messages and write me comments. I honestly do like them and I'll definitely try my best to return the favor. I'm generally pretty nice and I like making new friends (and talking to old ones). If I don't reply to your message, though, please don't be offended.

- If I added you first, chances are I: already know you IRL, wish to know you IRL, felt a need to because I find you interesting, we have a number of things in common, or any combination thereof

- BANDS: my MySpace is set up so bands can no longer send me add requests. Sorry, but I got sick and tired of receiving way too many requests each day from bands I honestly don't care about. I LOVE music, but I'd rather seek out new things on my own and add you myself if you fall into that category. And STOP fucking SENDING ME MESSAGES... it only makes me wish the black death upon you. Bothering me makes me want nothing to do with your music.

- I also HAAAAAAAAAATE getting messages from people that are nothing more than covert whoring for bands (or advertising of any other nature). That irritates the crap out of me. Seriously, once again, that's not going to make me want to listen to you.

- ADVERTISERS OF ANY SORT: What I said above for bands goes for you guys too. DON'T BOTHER ME. I probably don't care much about you or your product and if I do, I'll find you and add you myself. Myspace doesn't have an option to turn off requests from you yet.

AND PLEASE DON'T BOTHER IF...

- You won't actually talk to me once you add me (and "one liner" emails don't count... LAME!). What's the point?

- You just want to add to the numbers or faces on your friends list and don't really care much about knowing me better. I'm not into collecting, whoring, or any of that shit. If you're not a person I already know personally, please at least make the time and effort to get to know me a little bit.

- You're practically young enough to be my kid... or old enough to be my parent.

- You're all about stupid drama. Seriously, I have no time for that. I've already completed high school and have no desire to do it again.

- We don't have anything in common (which makes me wonder why you'd want to add me in the first place).

- You're not who you say you are. I'm real, You be too.

- Your profile is empty (no photos, little or no info). I like to know a bit about the person I'm adding and don't see reason to add someone I know nothing about.

- You use Myspace solely to promote. Sorry, but it's a safe assumption that I probably don't care about your band, your club event, your clothing line, or whatever it is you're selling. I am not the kind of person you want to target to... I have no interest in "scene solidarity", let alone being a part of any scene, and I'm not your free ad space.
