About Me
Hide the merchandise because the Shoplifters are back in town!!! Originally formed in 1998 as a side project for singer/guitarist Ruben Medina, the Wilmington-based Rock & Roll bands' original line up consisted of Ruben on guitar/vocals, Sal on drums and Ricky on bass. At the time both Ruben and Sal were pulling double duty with the punk rock band Left Alone, in which Ruben played bass and Sal drums. Ruben had originally used the Shoplifters as a change of pace from Left Alone, thanks to his desire to perform songs with more of a country music influence ranging from classic country artist such as Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard with bands such as The Smiths and The Misfits. The band had made their debut on Rubens 21st birthday, at the now defunct world famous P.C.H Club, which was located at 1832 Pacific Coast Highway in Wilmington California, R.I.P. The band had only played one show, in which they opened for Left Alone; immediately after the show, the Shoplifters broke up, "We were The Shoplifters", actually the band had decided to take a short hiatus; and during this period, the lineup had changed quite a bit, as drummers and bass players had come and gone; but now the newly formed Shoplifters consist of Ruben, still on guitar/vocals, German on bass and Alton on drums, the band has only recently made their re-debut, some eight years later; It was on Tuesday the 7th of June, 2005 at Taco Beach, that the Shoplifters opened up for Left Alone for the second time. Although it was not a perfect show, it will probably never be topped, just for the simple fact of who was all there. ALL OUR FRIENDS! It was among other things a reunion of sorts, with all of the original members of both Left Alone and The Shoplifters together again for the first time, in the same place, in several years; and with that...THE SHOPLIFTERS ARE BACK!!! AND READY TO ROCK!!!
