About Me
For some kids growing up it was the love of baseball, for some it was karate. For some it was football, and for some they wanted to be a rock star. Dino DeLuke grew up wanting all of that and more. It all started in 1975 when at the age of ten, Dino picked up his first set of sticks and settled behind his first Ludwig kit. He was heavily influenced by Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich as a kid, so he sought out Rich’s associate and“Master Teacher†Henry Adler to seek and obtain the knowledge of his influences. He quickly learned the ropes. Throughout his studies during his teen years, he also took lessons from Clint DeGannon and Dana Beck & Hunter Ken Herman also and Adler protégé. As a teenager, DeLuke formed his first working band, “flashbackâ€, who played all over Westchester and New York City.
While attending Hunter College in New York City on a Jazz Scholarship, DeLuke studied under the direction of Buck Clayton (Count Basie, Billie Holiday, Benny Goodman) and Robert Montessi. Around this time he formed his next band, “Up In Armsâ€. The act spent time gigging around Manhattan and the Tri-State area.
In 1985, Dino’s love for Jazz and his structure and roots were sewed solidly in New York, but he wanted more! The prominent West Coast rock scene was taking off, and Dino wanted to be a part of that! He packed up everything and moved to San Diego, CA. Shortly after arriving in San Diego in the summer of 85’, Dino joined the band “Vamp†(Original Drummer), which was a popular hard blues band. In 1988 Dino, and his brother Peter, formed "Nemesis" (Official MySpace page) ,which was a rock n’ roll cover band that also wrote some original material. Nemesis was one of the most popular rock cover acts in San Diego history throughout the 90’s and are still playing today, recently celebrating their 20th anniversary. In 1995, Dino and Peter formed the original act â€Sledd†(Official MySpace page) , which has recorded two unreleased albums and is currently in the studio recording their third album. Sledd is a hard core rock band with heavy guitars and an emerging sound that is set to bring a fresh sound to the rock scene. For more information on Sledd check out the â€Sleddweb†website.
So what about Jazz? Don’t think he has forgotten! Dino has another project “Power Hittersâ€, which is a Jazz Fusion band that has recently finished some studio recordings and you can hear them above.
