My name is George Karos. I'm a poet/performance artist living in Washington, DC with strong family ties to West Virginia. Over the last 17 years, I've traveled and performed throughout the United States as a musician, poet, and visual artist. As a columnist and poetry editor, I have presented poetry by new and experienced poets, edited and reviewed books of poetry, readings, performances. I have a master's of arts degree from American University and have two poetry books published by Red Dragon Press , from Virginia. Over the last four years, I‘ve written and recorded many acoustic songs live with one mike and to 4-track cassette. I’ve transferred these cassette recordings to CD and given hundreds to many people as a kind of an “arts for arts sake†endeavor. After taking 5 years off from live performing, I spent much of 2009 performing live acoustic/poetry sets a few times a month in the Mid-Atlantic regions of the USA, (I have a pretty busy work life/job, and well, time is ...travel is...you know...) from New York down through Virginia.
In my artistic life, I’ve also been lucky to have performed improvised & structured music and vocalizations with many incredible artists, in various forums, throughout many years, sharing the stage in both commercial (Whiskytown, The Oblivians, Fretblanket, Toad the Wet Sprocket) with my bands and non-commercial settings solo with acclaimed artists such as Bob Mould, Brendan Canty, Stewart Lupton, among others, in various forums, throughout many years...* Also, I'm pleased to announce that I have a *NEW POETRY BOOK SLATED FOR January 2010 from Red Dragon Press - although copies are being taken in pre-order from on-line sales by folks like Barnes & Noble etc... and your favorite book stores.** I've also included, as my last two songs listed, two Mail Order Bride songs part of a 20 song retrospective available on-line from me in spring 2010.On this page, I’ve included recordings (comprised of spoken word/acoustic/piano compositions) from various projects I’ve worked with over the years, as well as some links related to my body of work including an undefined Mail Order Bride Live (MOB R.I.P, 1996-2003)
