In the small town of Malvern, Arkansas, where boredom prevails on a daily basis, one must find a way to occupy one's time. For a fresh new group of talented musicians christened Follow the Shadows, as they enter the spotlight, they hold fast to the idea that there is no better way to spend that time than in the creation of music for the enjoyment of their exuberant audience.
Beau Purifoy, (vocalist, rhythm guitar) took an interest in music after attending a show one night in which a local band of his high school acquaintances were performing. Inspired, Beau took upon himself the task of mastering the ways of guitar. Serious about his new ambition, he continued to play throughout his years in high school, gradually getting better and better, and simultaneously growing more and more interested in a career in music. That is when Beau was introduced to his soon-to-be best-friend, Cody Reynolds (lead guitarist). At the house of a mutual friend Beau was fiddling around on the drums, when Cody, intrigued by the succulent beat, picked up a guitar and began to play along. Cody took an interest in the guitar at the age of thirteen when he was given one as a present. "It was the best gift anyone could've given me," he once responded to a query on the subject. After two years in the garage of Beau's mother's house playing cover songs and adapting to each other's style, they decided, given their shared passion for the music and the instruments they play, that it was time to start a band. But they knew that a band could not be started with only two guitarists and a garage. They lacked the means but they had the heart, so, searching for fresh talent, they recruited Andrew Brooks (Drums, screams), who Cody had recently become friends with at the high school that Beau had graduated from not long before. Andrew, who, like Beau and Cody, was more at home on the guitar, had just started playing drums, but he quickly adapted to his new instrument and soon became amazingly proficient at it. But the band still felt like it was missing something, and so it was with that that Andrew presented to his new friends the final piece that would complete the puzzle that was their band: his old friend and classmate, Matt Banks (keyboard, bass, backup vocals). Matt, born into a very artistic and musical family, had started out playing the piano, but, as was with Andrew and his quick mastery of the drums, Matt promptly showed an astute understanding of the bass, and be came remarkably good at it. And so, it was with the completion of this ring of four that Follow the Shadows was born.
The different styles of the individual band members have come together to form a punk/metal/hardcore genre. The music they perform as a band is largely influenced by such well-known artists as: Killswitch Engage, Saosin, Chiodos, All That Remains, Senses Fail, Finch, The Used, and Taking Back Sunday, yet still they strive to resist conformity as they endeavor to keep their own unique sound. They began recording their debut E.P. at Bluechair studio in August 2008 and plan to release the album in January of 2009. As they book new shows and as their fanbase grows ever larger, they look towards the future; not knowing what that tantalizing destination has to offer, they know only this: whatever life might have in store for them, as long as there is a single person in this world who is passionate about music, Follow the Shadows will be there to drive that passion home. !CLOSE Text Div!:
