Remember when music inspired you? Made you cry? Or just made you say, "Man, I wish I wrote that lyric"? Music that let you know it was okay to be sad, be angry or just "be". Stephen Oran's fusion of Rock, Funk and Soul is a throwback to those times. Born and raised in Northeast Kansas City, Ks, Stephen grew up feasting on all the different flavors music had to offer. Gospel, Soul, Funk, Rock, Jazz, Hip Hop and everything in between, all the while being influenced by some of the most brilliant artists and musicians of our time. Those influences are prominent in his music, but not overpowering, allowing his own style to shine through. After years of "trying to find his voice" he's finally made peace with himself and with the music within. "It has been an interesting journey, to say the least, but I'm finally out of the box I was allowing myself to be put in. Sweet liberation!" After taking a year to write and record, Stephen is ready to share his thoughts with the masses. "I told myself to just write about my relationships and experiences in life, you know, like the first time I saw HER; or keep striving to live the dream." A self taught musician, this one-man-band plays 3 instruments and teaching himself a fourth. "It's cool to play all the parts myself when I'm recording, but I always look forward to playing with other musicians. I like for them to learn the music, but I to give them space to make their own interpretation. As long as everything is tight and we're cohesive, I'm cool with it." After playing in a few bands while in college, Stephen got into the production side of things as well. After writing and producing for other artists, he decided that it was time to for him to take center stage. Focused and driven, the results are an amazing debut entitled "The Life and Times...Vol. 1" a five-song EP that is a hybrid of Rock, Funk and Soul. "I just call it real life music. I try hard not to categorize it. Just expect the unexpected". I've come to realize that music is a journey; a quest that is intertwined with life; There are many twists and turns and there is continuous evolution. It's a fascinating and thrilling exploration of different sounds and styles, colored by one's emotions . As an artist honing my craft, I am always trying to find a way to communicate with the listener, hoping he/she will have some understanding of what I am expressing. Seeing that we all have the human experience in common, I don't think relating to one another is a totally alien idea."
