I have chosen to apply for a degree course, In Fashion Design at the Bournemouth arts
Institute, with an emphasis on learning the design side of the industry. I am anticipating
this will ultimately be leading to a career in Fashion. And have a more indepth insight into
the way the fashion industry works. I have had experience in the retail fashion industry
working for such companies as Topshop, Faith Shoes & Next the last 4 years I have been
working in retail environment in many capacities, 3 of these years in fashion. Roles included
style advising, visual merchandising & retail management. However, I find that I am drawn
towards the aspects of the course because of my keen eye for fashion & design. I am
passionate to make my own mark on the industry that has given so much to me.
For a long time as a consumer and an employee in fashion, I used to get so frustrated with
what was on offer to the consumer on the High street.
I definitely would like to establish my unique identity to make my imprint in the fashion
world.
I believe this degree will be a stepping stone towards attaining this.
I recognize styles, shapes, trends and the use of color.
I also have an idea of different fabric and what works & what doesn't.
I enjoy modifying and manipulating fabrics to produce different styles.
I studied media communication and production for A level, this included print which relates
to the course.
Looking at design, use of color and looking at other mediums of advertising.
I recieved a merit in my first year of the media course.
I left to pursue other avenues. Being a bit older and bit wiser I feel I could apply myself
especially to the structure and commitment of a degree.
During my school-life, I had been involved in annual fashion productions, as a model. Which
received local press coverage and worked part time for a local fashion boutique, which I
started to see my flare for fashion bloom & starting to get to know the various brands.
I am often influenced by media myself Television is a hugely influences this. In particular
Japanese culture. Especially anime, I find their culture very interesting & very intuitive
particularly 'harajuku' which is well known for the unique fashion style.
I am a confident, outspoken and passionate, individual. My style only extenuates my
personality. I love what I do, who I am & how I dress.
Even my name means stand out from the crowd.
I have always been obsessed with fashion including hair and make-up and
always love to experimented.
I am confident about my own abilities and know I am relishing the opportunity of sinking my
teeth into something new.
My ultimate goal is to be well known innovator in the fashion world and believe this course
is key to helping me realize this dream and potential
