About Me

HOW IT ALL BEGAN..... In 1954, on Chicago's Near-west side, a civic organization called "Pilsen Neighbors Community Council" emerged as eastern European immigrants banded together to confront their community's most pressing needs. WHO WE ARE..... Pilsen Neighbors Community council is a nonprofit organization founded and geared towards helping the many different families of the Pilsen neighborhood.THE ISSUES WE ADDRESS..... Immigration, Healthcare, and EducationWHAT WE DO..... Our programs include scholarships, internships, tutoring and mentoring in partnership with DePaul University, job placement, pre-job training, and community organizing.ENRICHING THE COMMUNITY THROUGH FIESTA DEL SOL..... Fiesta del Sol came out of a five year struggle to get Benito Juarez H.S. in Pilsen. This common cause brought together our community on a common goal. No longer would the young people from our community be forced to cross over gang lines in fear just to continue their education. With this victory a celebration took place that which today is known as Fiesta Del Sol After 33 years this community celebration now draws over a million people to the streets of Pilsen each summer. The Fiesta del Sol, now one of the three largest Latino Festivals nationwide, and is the only one run solely by volunteers. What started off as a block party celebration, has evolved into a nationally publicized event complete with corporate sponsorship.FOR MORE INFORMATION..... please go to www.fiestadelsol.org or www.pilsenneighbors.org myspace layouts for Get this layout for your myspace page myspace layouts for Get this layout for your myspace page.
