Rua Macmillan

Young Traditional Musician of the Year!

About Me

Originally from Nairn, near Inverness in the Scottish Highlands, Ruairidh currently plays fiddle in the award winning 'Paul McKenna Band' - whose debut album 'Between Two Worlds' has just been released to great critical acclaim on the Greentrax label - as well as fronting 'The Rua Macmillan Band', with Tia Fyles and Adam Brown.

Having been taught by Bruce Macgregor, Alpha Munro, Sharon Hassan, and most notably, Aonghas Grant Snr - the great Left-handed fiddler from Lochaber, Rua has recently graduated with a B.A. Hons (Scottish Music) from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, and has already toured extensively in the UK and Europe, as well as Canada, America and the Faeroe Islands!

Ruairidh has just been awarded the prestigious title of 'BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2009'.
