Formed by Harvinder, who is universally known as Herbie Sahara - the lead singer of the group. Herbie was born in the UK, and is a very confident vocalist with a powerful voice. He started singing to Hindi film tracks when he was only (3) years old, and also at an early age was singing at local Sikh temples. For as long as Herbie can remember he always wanted to be a singer.
Herbie’s first recollection of bhangra is hearing Alaap and Heera. At age of (10) along side his brothers ‘Kully’ and ‘Gurps’ they became members of the bhangra dance group ‘Nachda Punjab’. Herbie served his apprenticeship playing keyboards and singing for local bands. He did his first ever stage performance at the age of (11).
In the year 1993 Herbie and Kully formed the band Sahara and released an album ‘Intemptation’ which exceeded their expectations and shot them to national fame. Then came the albums ‘Let Loose’ (1994, produced by Johnny Zee) and ‘Blue Print’ (1997), but it wasn’t until 2001 when Sahara released ‘Access All Areas’ that they became internationally recognised. The album sales were phenomenal and the song ‘Soniye ni Soniye’ became the best selling song of the year. Sahara have toured in Canada, Norway, Denmark, India and Pakistan, Kenya, America and Dubai where they performed at the dubai rain festival. Sahara have many fans abroad as well as in the UK. Then in the year 2005 came there biggest ever album Undisputed wich took Sahara to greater heights and featured the anthem track "billo ni tera lal ghagra" appreciated around the world the song is huge not just in the uk but countrys like india, kenya, pakistan, dubai and many more.
Sahara were nominated for the ‘Best Band’ category at the 2003 Asian Music Awards. The brothers who have played alongside great artists; Kuldeep Manak, Surinder Shinda , Surjit Bhindrakhia, Hans Raj Hans, Manmohan Waris, Himesh reshmmiya have been busy with tours and gigs are currently working on there brand new album wich should be out in 2007
