Hello Everybody!My name is Thomas Nack. I live in Hamburg, Germany, and work as a professional drummer. I became a drummer at eleven by a twist of fate: I wanted to form a band, but we already had guitarist! In the early years I took the autodidactic route; if the band wasn`t rehearsing, I mostly played to tapes, trying to figure out what the drummers were doing and how they got there... In my early twenties I began developing a more serious approach, viewing my drumming from a more professional angle, immersing myself deeper into the matter, got myself some books and took private drum lessons ( o.a. at the Drummer`s Collective/ NYC ) to become familiar with new stylistics, techniques and approaches. In a musical sense I was always stayed open for everything, and that still hasn`t changed ( sorry, NEARLY everything! )... Music is universal to me and cannot be approached with a fixed set of rules. Everything is a part of the same circle. Admittedly, a certain style authenticity has to be present - up until now I have played the most different things: from Thrash Metal to Soul music, from Heavy Metal over Funk, Hip Hop to musical theatre shows -, and I came to realize that to me, it`s all connected. The power and tightness that I need for Metal, can even be very useful to me in a musical theatre situation and interacts positively with my groove playing. Seen the other way around, the understanding of Jazz enables a more free, creative and virtuous approach to my playing, and adds a more "swingy" feel to my personal perception of Metal... Sound, time and feel - no matter what musical style - are the most important components for a drummer. The technical ability should be used to express yourself musically and creatively. To follow your own signature, to find your own voice, that is the objective... Cheers, Thomas
