Hello ROCKERS !! My name is Ton. I'm a bassguitar-player & guitar-player and I play in two bands now!! I'm also in the organisation of two Rockfestivals; Women In Rock and Borstrock !!
My music-life started very early. At home my father played Shadows, Elvis, ABBA and more of these classic things. I started learning music in the local Harmony, but after learning notes on paper, during a year, without having touched one instrument, I was dissapointed and quit at the age of 10. At home I learned myself playing the keyboard, flute & voiceharp when I was a kid.
When I was 12 years old I started to listen to Dire Straits, Eric Clapton & Supertramp. I really wanted to play guitar. I learned the basics of guitar-play. Now and then I played a song on a party or on a birthday, but not more than that.
Then I saw the WOODSTOCK-movie, and started to see more and more live-bands. In the late 80's I went to ROCKWERCHTER and my eyes were opened. I listened to underground-music and the old punk, the old hardrock and the early noise/grunge. I went to clubs in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Tilburg and Utrecht with friends to see the bands. I met other musicians. Then things went fast. I placed an advertizement together with a good friend and started a band. It was called MAD-IX. Later the name was changed to NO NEED and later in THE NEED. The music was own-written and sounded a bit like 80's britpop. We played at good places, everywhere in the land, but there was no progression. In 1999 we quit this band.
One year later I was asked by blues-rockband ONTROEREND GOED (formerly SOUTH WEST BLUES) from Nieuw-Vossemeer to play guitar. Maybe it sounds like a joke, but they ment BASS-guitar. I said; OKAY !!! I'll play the bass-guitar. So I learnt bass-guitar. A few months later we were ready to rock and we changed the name in ONYX !!! In all those years the blues-rock more and more disappeared, to make place for heavy rock and hardrock. And we still play !!
When I was with ONYX, I also started another band in 2001. It was called PANATOMA. An original name figured out by myself. Unfortunately I found out that this band was not wat I wanted. So I quit in 2002. In 2004 I gathered a few people of this band to form a new band. And that was TEARS OF BLOOD. This metal-coverband was a local rising star with a lot of fans. Unfortunately this band was doomed to split in 2006. In that same year I formed a new band with some young friends who liked to play punkrockmusic. This band is called KOPKAAS, and we still play!!
