Im Land der Pharaonen wurde Sie nicht nur als Göttin der Schönheit und der Fruchtbarkeit verehrt, sondern auch als Mondgöttin.
Sie entspricht der griechischen Artemis.
Ihre Aufgabe war es, während der Nacht die Sonne zu bewachen und Apophis, die Schlange der Finsternis zu bekämpfen. Gemeinsam mit der Löwenköpfigen Göttin Sachmet tötete sie die große Apophisschlange, die versucht hatte die Sonnen (Re) zu verschlingen und die Welt in ewige Dunkelheit zu stürzen.
