About Me

Ulf Petterssons website:

I Started in the late seventies when I joined my first band, playing some kind of Eagles inspired music. We soon drifted towards playing progressive rock and fusion though.
We believed we could get closer to the music scene by moving to Stockholm, so we packed our bags, and began looking for a rehearsal room which took us about a year or so.
In the mean time we were lucky enough to get some gigs as session players, which was really great, as these kind of gigs wasn't easy to come by.
After a few years I discovered that the busy citylife wasn't for me, so I decided to move back to the rural shades where I was born. It suits my personality more knowing to have the woods close and right outside my door.
I joined an already established group playing at places where people dance, but since dancing really is not my favourite occupation I quit after a couple of years to start up my own recording studio.
I set up a project studio in my garage and it soon turned out to be a success, and I had to move to a bigger place. After a few years I had the business running, and worked a lot as both producer and engineer for bands coming from all around the country, and even abroad. The style was mainly heavy metal, and I was quite content doing that.
However, we were falling on hard times, and I had to work more for less pay, and I eventually got a bit jaded. I decided to get a 9-5 job and was concentrating more on a group I joined a couple of years earlier going back to my roots even more by playing real progressive music.
So far we have recorded eight fullength albums, and we have been touring around Europe a couple of times, which has really been an amazing and rewarding experience.
In 2006 I joined an American A&R agency in order to hone my skills in both composing and producing music. They really serve as my motivation to constantly improve, and at the same time offer me the chance of making some money on it.
Thanks to their services I have signed contracts with several pusblishers and record companies around the world in only three years. The consequence of the whole thing is that I have imroved tremendously in composing, arranging and producing. The next thing to focus on is how to get my music a little bit more personal and unique, nudging my way into a comfort zone of creating music.

On Music Production

Listened to the tracks at work. I found that the lead melody on 'ackdist' is not quite ready yet. The distorted sound is a bit too extreme for the song, and even if I generally like extreme sounds, es...

On Music Production

One major problem that has followed the production so far, is the choice of drums. For "Beauty" I first used a conventional drum sample as I imagine that the pioneers in 'shoegazing' only used ordinar...

On Music Production

I was aiming for a more drone style approach, so I managed to find a couple of strumming acoustic guitar samples which I based the idea on. This last attempt yielded a finished structure and almost fu...
