Inspired by the great percussionists such as Giovanni Hidalgo, Horacio Hernandez, Ray Barreto, Tim "Timbali" Cornwell, Paulinho Da Costa, Francisco Aguabella, Eddie “Bongo†Brown, Tito Puente and countless others, Tonatiuh Hernandez, at the age of 22 is striving to make his own mark in the music world. He has an Ethnomusicology certificate from UC Irvine and has studied under Ron Powell, Alberto Lopez, Roberto Cascante, Ramses Araya and Candido Hernandez (to name a few). Tonatiuh is currently endorsed by Tycoon Percussion and has appeared with various groups including Opa Opa, Rumbankete and Yari More, among others. But aside from playing in L.A.'s Salsa scene, Tonatiuh has also performed with Son Jarocho groups, Top 40’s bands, Classic Rock Bands, International Trova artists, Latin Jazz Ensembles and most recently was asked to do a set of guest appearances with smooth jazz artist Kenny G in several Southern California Venues. Being the “new guy in townâ€, Tonatiuh is dedicated to establishing a name, reputation and level of musicianship that will gain the respect of his peers and allow him to excel further in the music industry.
