About Me

Thank you for reviewing my online portfolio. I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember, continuing my journey of the challenges and emotions an artist encounters through the voyage of each painting.
I am a 1985 graduate of Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, where I am proud to say I was the sole Fine Art major from my class. I have worked in the Chicago area at a screenprinting company, where I have been able to learn a great deal about color, line and design.
My art is inspired by many sources throughout my life. My grandfather was the first to put a pencil in my hand and show me how to draw a pirate's face (based on those amusing "learn to be an artist" advertisements suggesting one to copy the drawing to gauge your abilities). From a fine art perspective, my influences have included the work of Picasso, Van Gogh, Degas, Matisse and Cezanne. More recent influences have been Warhol, Hopper, Nagel and Mukai.
Please feel free to critique my work and tell me how I'm doing. I am always excited by the reactions of friends, family and prospective collectors. A number of my recent efforts are currently available for purchase, and I plan on pursuing the sale of my pieces both in galleries, and at my site at www.eyefrenzy.com.
Regards,
Mark Compton
