Velveeta Jones is a hard-hitting electric blues band from central Kentucky.
Formed during the summer of 2001, their sound was classic power trio in a decidedly blues vein but given their diverse musical backgrounds in country, bluegrass and rock and roll, those influences came through in the blues tunes they loved. Rather than downplay those diverse influences for the blues purists, they embraced them, giving a new sound to old standards as well as charting a course for their own material to come.
Things were coming together nicely for the band when their drummer, Duane Miller, was called back to active military duty after 9-11 and Sondra Presley took leave for some much-needed R & R. As a result, the band was put on the shelf for three and a half years. Over the winter of 2004/2005 they reunited, and with everyone healthy and ready to play they rekindled the fire that is Velveeta Jones.
They're showing no signs of slowing down in 2007/2008, having already played this past March as backing band for Chicago's "Daughter of The Blues" Shirley King (daughter of blues legend B.B. King) and sax guru Gerald Noel of Junior Walker and the All-Stars fame. In September 2007, they won the regional Blues Foundation's International Blues Challenge in Louisville and competed in Memphis on the world stage.
Duane Miller has once again answered the call of duty and will be serving overseas during a portion of 2008/2009, so the band will welcome in his absence drummer Reed Sanders...a veteran of Charlie Daniels' touring band in the early days of that music legend's career.
