----------------------------MANDY STARRBorn:- Ebbw Vale, South Wales 1963
-----------------------------------------Discovered she could sing at the age of 18. Gave up her job as a clerk at "British Steel" to take up music studies.Won a scholarship to Trinity College of Music - London in 1985 - Performance/classics course (F.T.C.L)
---------------------------------------------------------Beg
an her career in light entertainment with "SUMMER SHOWTIME" at the Pavillion Theatre, Weymouth 1989 and cabaret all over the south coast of England,London and Wales. Short haul cruise work soon followed, as did various venues in mainland Spain. Has toured the U.K with many top acts including:-------Freddie and the Dreamers,The Searchers,The Dallas Boys,Brian Poole and the Tremolos,Jimmy James and the Vagabonds,Les Dennis,Keith Harris,The American Drifters,---------------------------------------------------
------Amongst many others - two of the nicest being Danny La Rue and Mathew Kelly who both gave her "priceless advise" that she still sticks to today: to basically always be true to herself and to be true to her audience.---------------------------------------------------
----------By far, one of the most important meetings of Mandy's career came in a club dressing room, several years ago. She was booked to appear in a charity concert in Cardiff. On the bill was a popular local entertainer who was making quite a name for himself in a local radio station and had acquired a huge fan base. The person was Chris Needs.
------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------They became instant friends and Chris said that if he ever made the "big time", he would make sure that everyone hears Mandy's voice. Some time later, Chris was snapped up by B.B.C Radio Wales. Chris Needs Friendly Garden Show quickly became one of the most popular programmes in regional radio and true to his word, Chris made sure that Mandy is a regular contributor to the show. She is also proud to appear in theatre with Chris for his charity shows all over Wales, raising money for hospitals and hospices.
------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------As well as her association with Chris and BBC Wales, Mandy has been proud in the last two years to work for Thompson holidays / Thompson Gold in Spain and Greece, various other Holiday companies in the U.K / Holiday camps, as well as her own Theatre concerts and club cabarets.---------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------When Mandy Starr sings, it's with all the skill, training and vocal control of someone who spent her early singing career being groomed as a classical singer. But, as she readily admits, when the time came to make the big decision, found her heart lay in popular music.
-----
Therefore, Opera's loss has been light entertainments gain as Mandy has won a whole series of coveted awards.
------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------Her act now contains songs from Broadway and West End musicals, popular songs from the 50's to today and a wide range of Operatic arias, Classical and Sacred music, with a little light hearted banter and comedy thrown in. She believes she now provides a “sprinkling of something for all tastes ".----------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------Mandy's Drama training has proved worthwhile also, as she has appeared in various T.V soaps as background actor and starred in a short film screened on New Years Eve 2005 for channel 4 Wales S4C called Anthem.
------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------Her musical journey continues into the 2007 season with "Quite a busy diary " and the promise of more exciting projects to come. In the words of one of Mandy's favourite lines - "It's never over till the fat lady sings".
