About Me

Music has always been a major part of my life, ever since first being introduced to the guitar at 8 years old by a young lady who lived across the street from me. I heard her play, and i was hooked. Don't ask me what she played, but well enough to inspire me to desire my own guitar, and shortly after that moment, my parents bought me one. By the time I had reached early adulthood,my abilities were such that i was able to enter into collaboration with likeminded musicians, eventually leading to the creation of a band focusing ..ting edge experimental rock and heavy metal, and years later getting HEAVIER and HEAVIER, till i was playing thrash and death metal, along with my studies in classical guitar, while attending college. After many well received live engagements and promising recording sessions, my disillusionment with the commercial music scene began to grow. This eventually led to my putting aside my beloved instrument, a hiatus lasting some nine years. During that time,I grew personally, explored other methods of artistic expression, and put my music career in perspective. I began to realize just how important music was to me. It was becoming more apparent each passing year that the genuine expression of my musical soul might best be articulated in acoustic styles rather than the more provocative and energetic electric ,medium I had confined myself to in earlier years.Fingerstyle composers such as Alex Degrassi,Michael Hedges, Leo Kottke, Ed Gerhard, Eric Tingstad,Billy Mclaughlin, Will Ackerman,Chet Atkins,Daniel Hecht, spoke to me in ways that other guitar virtuosos had not. It was their commanding influence that brought me back to music, this time focusing on the acoustic medium exclusively. By 2005, I was once again dedicated to music with a passion I had never before experienced. It was as if a higher power were guiding me to a deeper, more spiritual involvement with this medium. The result is a satisfaction and fulfillment unmatched in my younger days, though as a "reformed headbanger", i still get some brief moments of listening bliss when i hear some old school shredders such as Vivian Campbell(dio), Yngwie, Iron maiden, and Judas Priest. Those dudes knew how how to solo!!!"John Tinger's new instrumental guitar CD "Everything Coincidental" is an inspiring collection of original works. The cutting edge playing techniques and special tunings guide the music and touch the soul. I love to listen when I want to be creative myself."Greg Atkin- President, strum-n-comfort(sharktooth crossover picks) www.strum-n-comfort.comRecorded @ Campbell Audio - Rochester, NY email: [email protected] IS NOW AVAILABLE AT CD BABY!John Tinger “Everything Coincidental" 2008Finger-style guitarist who inspired John Tinger include Alex Degrassi and Michael Hedges, Will Ackerman, Francisco Tarrega and Ed Gerhard. The guitar music of John Tinger has quite a few similarities to these virtuoso acoustic guitarists, who had a major role in expanding and creating more experimental and soulful guitar music. The guitar music of John Tinger, comes straight from his heart, it seems like he is painting soundscapes on a musical painted canvas. The moods are as well soulful, intimate as touching ones inner force. John Tinger plays just as his great inspirers in altered tunings to have a wider palette of musical possibilities to create several different moods. You just can't pick out a song to discuss as it are all imaginary painted roads coming from his heart. The CD has 13 cuts and all are played with fantastic skills on his steel-string guitar. A wonderful album to calm ones mind and get out of this stressful life.Henk te Veldhuis Bridge Guitar Reviews © 2008Music that Can Change your Mind www.acousticfuel.comMy first time hearing “Everything is Coincidental” was while I was driving home from work. DJ Mister Man had actually discovered this gem on the web and suggested I take it for the road. But, it was Monday and I had too much on my mind. It was racing. So, I popped the CD in and instantly my mind quieted down---and so did my screaming child. In a sea of traffic, I began to lighten up and became excited to have found yet another example of this “healing” music that we’ve been looking for...Purely “guitarlistic” and “finger playing” good, “Everything is Coincidental” by John Tinger was “coincidental”. His particular acoustic style was just what the doctor ordered. It’s amazing what a little music can do. My experience became easy, relaxing and clarifying.Oh, and I can’t forget about quiet and simplified. Before you know it, I was able to have new thoughts that were productive and good, even while going 25 mph in the carpool lane. And I must say his useful play of his instrument can definitely mellow you out, and can even get your creative juices flowing again. You know, so many people get bogged down by the many ups-and-downs of daily life and they choose to deal with it in a way that may or may not cool. But, when you think about it, how many times has a song saved you?The next time you just can’t seem to get going and could use a jump---listen to Acoustic Fuel. It’s audio that takes you where you want to go.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ John Tinger is a member of the AF Co-Op. His album "Everything Coincidental" is soothing and quietly stimulating. The tendency with most ambient acoustical efforts is to become dull thorough fare that doesn't audibly enhance and is easily forgettable. Here Tinger sets himself apart from the pack. Only 5 tracks in and I feel ready to conquer the world (or at least myself).I found myself picking up the CD and looking at the tracklisting so that I could make sure I knew which track I was listening to. I also actually took the time to add those illustrious stars to his track rating in iTunes. It also become one of those discs that friends and family bet not touch or ask to borrow. Hell naw…this sweet, soul edifying album is mine. The only thing I don't like about the album is the pre-historic looking fish on the album artwork. It scares me. But seriously, if you want to connect with your center "Everything Conicidental" is an excellent place to start."4 Signatures
