About Me

Hi, and thanks for checking in.
I was born in 1960 and have been playing drums since the age of 5. I played all through school and attended the Tidewater Music Festival in Maryland for five consecutive summers.
I began teaching in 1977. After high school, I began to establish myself locally, and then in the eighties I toured with Debbie Keeton, and then with Turn, an original jazz trio.
In the nineties I re-established myself in Monmouth County, playing with the Jazz Lobsters, freelancing in the studio and teaching. In Atlantic City I have backed Little Anthony, The Platters and the Diamonds, just to name a few. I've also recorded music for All My Children in NYC.
I am an origional member of Holiday Express, a volunteer organization that brings Holiday cheer to those in need. With Holiday Express I have had the opportunity to play numerous times on The Today Show, The Tree Lighting at Rock. Center, Living it Up with Ali and Jack, Telethons, many Comcast specials, 101.5 with Big Joe Henry, Annual WPLJ live broadcasts, the award winning documentary Rock and a Heart Place, and much more. With Holiday Express, I have played with Bruce Springteen, Jon Bon Jovi, Bob Bandiera, Rob Thomas, Daryl Hall, Joe Piscopo, Cyndi Lauper and more. For the last few years I have performed at the Winter NAMM show. I am currently performing with Tim McLoone and the Shirleys, The Bob Boyd Trio, Therese Crowley and freelancing. Stay tuned for a list of recent recordings.
I am an Adjunct Professor at Monmouth University. I've written for Modern Drummer magazine and Classic Drummer magazine. I play Soultone cymbals and RegalTip sticks and brushes. I teach privately and am currently taking on a limited number of advanced students. If you are interested in studying with me, please contact me through this site.
NEWS: 5/07
I am proud to announce that I am now endorsing "SOULTONE CYMBALS." I discovered these fine instruments at the NAMM show and couldn't get them out of my mind since.
Please check them out at www.soultonecymbals.com
A huge thanks to Tom Jackson and Rob "Action" Jackson for their support.
Best wishes- Bobby Boyd
