Egypt Central

About Me

Egypt CentralNamed after a road that runs through a tough area in their hometown of Memphis, Tennessee, Egypt Central was formed in 2001, by John T. Falls (vocals), Joey Chicago (bass), Heath Hindman (guitar), Blake Allison (drums), and Jeff James (guitar).Lead singer, John T. Falls rebelled against authority as a teenager, moving between foster homes, gang activity, drug addictions, and living on the streets. By the age of 18, John started searching for a new way of life through music. Hanging out one night in a local club, John spotted a kid who looked the part of a rock star. John asked around and found out it was guitarist, Heath Hindman. John persuaded Heath to join him in this new project. The two began searching for other musicians when they discovered drummer, Blake Allison and convinced him to join their ranks. Blake recruited his best friend, Joey Chicago to play bass for the group. For the next few months, the group rehearsed, started writing original music, while sweating it out playing clubs in the Memphis area. The band enlisted guitarist Jeff James to complete the band's lineup. "We are finally getting to the very beginning of where we want to be," says drummer Blake Allison. "But success wouldn't be sweet without a struggle."The band recorded their first self-titled disc in 2006, produced and mixed by Josh Abraham (Velvet Revolver, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Staind, Linkin Park, etc.). An insanely catchy, alternative-driven disc has turned modern rock fans' expectations upside down. Their sound encompasses edgy modern rock, thunderous heavy metal, and tumbles into the realm of funk and arena rock. One listen to the electric "Over and Under" (featured in the movie, "The Condemned"), the hard rocking "Taking You Down" (featured in the movie "The Cave"), or the inspiring "You Make Me Sick," there's no doubt this is what modern rock is all about. "Leap of Faith" and "Home" display the more emotional side of the band's lyrics and prove this band is not just leant on heavy riffs and hard drumming.According to vocalist, Falls, "the lyrics have something to say." Bassist, Joey Chicago adds, "We realize just how important our role is as a musician. We want people to feel good about listening to our music and overcoming obstacles in life that can really slow you down."Foster care, rehabs, homelessness, signed to a major label and dropped - the band's debut CD tells the story of their lives - an ever changing collage of lost love, frustration, broken dreams, but with the determination to rise and succeed."Life is what you make of it," says, Falls. "We're not vengeful people, and we would never let any negative energy ruin how great it feels to have an album out and it doing so well. After all the work we put in, it's the greatest feeling ever and I don't think it would be so gratifying had we not been through everything we've experienced. It's just another defining moment of what Egypt Central is all about...facing obstacles and overcoming them."
