About Me

I like Mediterranean food, modern haircuts, and linen suits. Here's what others say:
"Nurk: a voice, a guitar and talent...his pop-songs, particularly well crafted and catchy, which show all the talent of a composer...Nurk has a major asset, the broad range of voice, with which he likes to play and which enables him to give nuance to his interpretations."
--from "Nurk : attention talent!", La Republique, 31 May 2008 (France)
"There is still a bit of the driving sexuality to his songs, especially the exceptional “Skinny Legs,” which sounds like Morrissey keening voyeuristically across the dance floor as Nurk’s voice swells and pops with a smooth croon...songs like “A Smart Investment,” which plays like a mellow “Rocky Racoon,” are charming and witty, and closer “O Selma” hits on almost Orbisonian note. There’s no denying Nurk’s mesmerizing voice, and it’s great to hear it given so much of the spotlight as it is here.
-- Doug Freeman, Austin Sound , 5 January 2009
"Texan artist Nurk will charm with a fascinating performance of quirky alt-pop."
--The List (Scotland)
"Not to be missed! Intensity, melancholy and spirit of rock 'n' roll are the menu of this American artist."
--Lerockepamort.org (France)
"Nurk plays acoustic alternative/artistic songs in which different music styles from various periods of pop history meet in a sometimes dramatic and sometimes wistful way."
--Delftse Post (The Netherlands)
"60's psychedelic elements, mixed with 1920's Vaudeville, mixed with 80's dance/club stuff. "

"Nice...and strange."

Sounds Like: Talk to Me--Live at Notsuoh, Houston, Texas
.. Standing underneath an overpass. Or rain on the windowsill when it’s dark and solitary. Either way would be nice. A combination might be nicer. I wish I could sing like some of those Ethiopian singers. I’d also like to be able to sing those long, falling notes that Portuguese singers do. You know what? I wouldn’t be offended at all if someone said I sounded like George Michael.

My friends Popup graciously pull me on camera at the end of the interview. Suffice to say, I was taken by surprise a wee bit:http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/music/sxsw/bands/popup
