Information on what hippo therapy is...
Hippotherapy originated in Europe over 30 years ago. We use the movements of the horse to gain therapeutic benefits such as increased postural strength, better endurance, overall strengthening, and sensory regulation.
Kids get to ride bareback forward, sideways, backwards, kneeling, standing and quadraped! They have fun and don't realize they have worked so hard!

What is the difference between Hippotherapy and Therapeutic Riding?
In hippotherapy, a PT, OT or Speech Therapist is working directly with a patient on the horse to help the patient improve their functional skills. In Therapeutic Riding, a certified therapeutic riding instructor is teaching a person with special needs how to ride.

What is Hippotherapy?
Hippotherapy is a term that refers to the use
of the movement of the horse as a medical tool.
The horses walk provides sensory input through
movement, which is variable, rhythmic and repetitive.
The resultant movement responses in the patient are
similar to human movement patterns of the pelvis while
walking. Licensed physical therapists and physical
therapy assistants use the horse to accomplish treatment
goals as specified by a physician's prescription.
