Born on the 6th of September 1888 in Boston, Massachusetts to Mary Hickey and Patrick Joseph Kennedy. Graduated from Boston Latin School in 1908 and then from Harvard University in 1912. Served as state bank examiner until 1914 when I averted a takeover of the Columbia Trust Company, a bank co-founded by my father. At twenty-five years old, was made president of the Columbia Trust Company. I was the youngest bank president in the country.
It was on the 7th of October 1914 that I married Rose Fitzgerald, daughter of Boston Mayor John Francis Fitzgerald. His nickname was "Honey Fitz". Rose and I had nine children: Joe, Jr., John, Rosemary, Kathleen, Eunice, Patricia, Robert, Jean and Edward.
After working in banking, ship building and Wall Street, I became involved in the movie business. I produced many early westerns, coordinated a lecture series involving Marcus Loew, William Hays and Cecil B. DeMille, and began the merger that would eventually create Radio-Keith-Orpheum (RKO).
Was appointed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt as the first chairman of the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), chairman of the Maritime Commission and finally ambassador to Great Britian from 1938 to 1940. Unfortunately, Joe, Jr. was killed during WWII and Kathleen died in a plane crash in 1948. John was elected to the House of Representatives, the Senate and then President of the United States in 1960. Robert was made U.S. Attorney General and Edward was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1962. On the 19th of December 1961 coronary thrombosis left me severely debilitated.
