About Me
Born in Ontario, Canada on June 4th, 1982, Melissa Ann Smith grew up in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Melissa's heritage is half Italian and half English. She started with figure skating at age three, moved on to gymnastics at age five, and naturally progressed towards dance. Within dance Melissa found a home. She attended Deborah's Stage Dance Door, a performing arts academy in Rochester Hills, Michigan. The gracefulness of ballet, sharpness of jazz, and rhythms of tap melded together within this 10 year olds' body to create a powerful machine. This machine went on to become a solo dancer, (as well as a member), in large groups that won such prestigious national competitions as "Showstoppers", "Star Power" and "Showbiz".However, like every other child at her age, one skill is not enough. At age twelve, Melissa surprised her parents by performing in and headlining a Christmas extravaganza, but this time by using her voice. Who knew she could sing? This led to regional and national titles in song and dance competitions. Melissa continued to nurture these skills seven days a week through her young adult years. These blessings only helped to fuel her true passion, the theatre. She was continually cast as the lead in such plays as "Cinderella", "Beauty and the Beast" and "Cabaret". Melissa began to feel which direction the Universe was pulling her.Once again she found yet another love within the world of modeling. At age sixteen, she won second place at a National Miss Photogenic Competition. This catapulted her in to such jobs as promotional modeling for Miss Fitness, Detroit Automotive Show, Microsoft, X-Box, Sketcher and Dickies Girls. These jobs only helped to feed her thoughts of Hollywood. Despite these dreams of grandeur, Melissa managed to maintain a 3.5 GPA along with receiving a Scholastic Award for Mathematic Student of the Year.At age eighteen she heard about a Los Angeles audition for the next girl pop group, "Goddess". With her singing and dancing ability she was sure to land it. She did and shone as the lead singer, though she felt her talent could be better utilized as a solo artist. At age 19, she bombarded Los Angeles with her presence. She was signed to a production deal with Inters cope Records and cut her first demo. She has shot three independent films, cast as the lead in them. She has also landed a recurring character in a pilot for the WB titled "Prep", shot a FOX Promo for "American Idol", dance choreography for WB "Grounded For Life", and just before Christmas of 2002, screen tested for "One Life to Live". Recently she has guest-starred on the NBC comedy "Happy Family", as well as a "The Young & The Restless". Some commercials you may have seen her are Coca-Cola, KIA Cars, Del Taco, McDonalds and Best Buy. She has also worked as a Sports Announcer for FOX Special Events. More recently she was a finalist in Diddy’s Making The Band 3 – Season 2. Whether it's stepping on to the ice as a small girl in Michigan, or stepping off the plane in Los Angeles, Melissa tends to take huge leaps through life. And with the heat that this "powerhouse" now generates, it's a good thing there's no ice around.
