Born in Dominican Republic, raised in the Bronx, and there's only one thing that keeps her going...MUSIC!
Massiel Delgadillo aspires to be the next triple threat. From singing and dancing to acting and modeling, she does it all.
And we are privileged to have had the opportunity of having a one to one session with this young Latin diva, getting to know what she's all about.
How did it all start?
I was 11 years old, when I did my first solo performance. At the time, I was part of my church's choir and I had to sing O Holy Night. I remember waiting for them to call my name. Those few seconds before they did were torture. You forget how to breathe under that kind of pressure. I was so nervous. I had no control over my body. My heart was racing and my skinny ankles were shaking like crazy. I couldn't even walk right. Was I going to make it to the mic without falling? When I got on stage, everything got so quiet. The first thing that came to my head was Uh Oh! Can someone get me down from here cuz I sure don't know what I'm doing up here. I looked at my instructor, and I could tell he was scared for me too. But as he started playing the piano, I knew there was no turning back. At the end, hearing the applause and screams from everyone, just taking that all in was such an amazing experience. I had the biggest smile, that went from ear to ear, you could see my teeth from the back rows. All I was thinking at that very moment was "Can I do it again?" I knew from there on that this was what I wanted to do. And it kind of just took off from there.
How do your parents feel about you pursuing the entertainment industry?
Let's just say that they would still prefer I become a doctor or a lawyer. It's hard not having that support network, taking risks on your own, celebrating your triumphs by yourself and crying where no one can see you when things don't go your way. Anytime they would hear me singing in the house or came to one of my shows, they never failed to remind me that "Poor people had to keep their feet on the ground." So yeah at first I had to put music to the side and hit the books. Next thing you know, I'm on a plane to Las Vegas. I had entered a modeling and acting convention without my parents' permission; raised the money with the help of a few friends and took the risk. Now I'm not suggesting anyone to get on the next plane to follow their dreams, especially to Vegas! There's safer ways to do things. Luckily, for me, it worked out that way. I was one of the top twenty contestants out of 1,000 to receive more than ten callbacks from NY and LA. When I got back home, I got to do extra work on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, ABC's All My Children, and featured films. I would have to say that it was after this event that my parents realized that I was really going to do this. I mean they still don't agree with the whole thing but they have come to respect it.
During the creative process, what inspires you to write?
People.
What are you currently working on? Who are behind this project?
So far I've been doing things on my own. It isn't easy either, especially in this kind of business. You never know who your going to meet or what your really dealing with. There's a lot of funny people out there that are ready to tell you what you want to hear and make promises they can't keep. But aside from that, I do strongly believe in artist development. The goal is longevity. So right now I'm just trying to get my image right and find my sound.
The best of luck to you, it's a crazy world out there.
You already know.
There you have it. Massiel Delgadillo everyone. Stay tune as the journey continues.
