BIO OF MERKMerk, a.k.a. Niki Ligon is a 20 year old rap phenom. Growing up until the present day in a town called Belton,SC which has a population thats not big at all, in early 2005 merk and former group members formed a record label known as Get Money Ent. that merk has taken full ownership of. He took the rap scene by storm in 2008 and currently believes the same is going to happen in 2009 as well with smash hits that are in the making at this moment in time, the radio hits that have been produced in the past by yours truely were called "Can't Explain " and also "Make Dem Mad" and also "Camelot The Area ft. Antonio Rice(Boss of Bmp). The songs are still sung by people daily and still in rotation in various places. Now back to my bio, little did people know that that the guy he started out in the game as Young Merk would become what he is today going my Merk aka Dat Boy Genius. "Can't Explain" surpassed 20,000 plays, "Make Dem Mad" totaled 13,000 Plays, and "Camelot The Area" did its thang with 18,000 plays in 2008 before merk took them all down because of many myspace difficulties, but that is very rare from an artist around that area to be workin with those numbers so fast. In 2009 his hit single " Can't Explain" was played 98.1 and was played atleast 10 to 12 times in one night and got the same reaction from many radio stations in Anderson, Atlanta, Florida, Ohio, and also many internet radio stations. Merk is very open about his thoughts of music and about the state of hip-hop, and he is also always optimistic about everything. He is always open for collabs right now since he is not signed at this moment but affiliated with alot of major names, and major people makin major moves such as Chops of KT Ent(Manager), Yung Daze of Collipark Music, Promise & Threatz of Red Dirt Ent, O' Vakseen from Slip n Slide Rec, 4-4 Water of Jake Rec, K-Trik-e of KT Ent, C-Cann(Promoter), Moss & Boss of Bmp,Asasn Escobar Aka Yung Asasn of Nu Breed, D-Mo Da King & Killa C of Get Money ent.(Merk's label), and thats just to name a few, and he is always looking for live shows, and always looking to talk to new artists, dj's, producers, and a&r's about his music. My name is Niki Ligon but I go by Merk aka Dat Boy Genius.Yeah thats right,"I BE KILLIN' DA GAME!"I know you all have heard the saying,"How do You know where your going if you dont know where you've been?"I am 20 years old and I am sure to some that is young.I like to think I have grown mans mentallity.I know what I have to do to get where I wanna be. My life hasn't be easy thus far so why should it start today?Nothing was ever been handed to me nor my family. My mother raised 3 kids(triplets) on her own.Growin up my father died when I was two years old so I know whats it's like not to have a father. My mother has been the only thing keepin me going and outta these streets for the past 19 years. Sure we have all made our mistakes but I am trying to learn from mine and teaching others the same through my music.I grew up in this little town of Belton SC.Most of ya'll probably don't even know where that is..lol but thats the city that made me who i am right now alot of artists say that but im the only one who actually mean it around here. It's a couple more MC's that live in my town but I am one of the realest by far.I don't rap about what I think people want to hear!!! I rap about what I know.The only thing is this town are old drug dealers, basketball legends, and young people making wrong decisions everyday. Unlike most of my homeboys I decided to attend college. Not only do I do that but I also work full-time. Yeah it's hard alot of the time. Most days I don't even feel like getting out of the bed. I know it's all gonna pay off in the end. So I'm a worker,student,and local rap celebrity(cocky huh). So what if I am not from Atlanta or the hood of Brooklyn. Everyone has there own struggle and its notwhere you come from it's where you wanna go and what you tryin to do that matters. Personally i want to make it so im gone do everything in my power to make that happen!! To me life is all about choices. I chose not to get a female pregnant, I chose not to sell on the block, I chose 2 be a real man, A real artist, and to stay on my grind day in and day out until i put myself as well as my city on the map, and thats what I'm going to continue to do until it happend. Right now it's all about MERK, B-Town, and what I want because in the end thats all I can count on.
