Denton Cohesion

About Me

Denton Cohesion is a collective of musicians, photographers, artists, and writers. They are not a booking agency, record company, or musicians union. They are a loosely organized group who pool their time and resources to draw attention to Dentons viable music scene in ways that have a positive impact on the area in which they live. You might think of them as a musical activist group. Or you could think of them as the Denton music scenes equivalent of the DC Comics Superfriends, who combine their awesome rock powers and use them for the forces of good.
During their 2 years of existence, Cohesion has come up with many clever and successful ways to promote Denton music and foster a positive relationship with the community. Folks involved in Cohesion have helped organize and play benefits for the Red Cross Tsunami Fund, Peace Action Denton, and the City Council Candidacy of Travis Biggs (Independent.) They have also Adopted-A-Spot along a stretch of busy highway in Denton and held a trash pickup there every two months.
On the musical front in 2004 and 2005, Cohesion put together showcases that immediately became cant-miss events for fans of live music in the DFW area, such as the 2004 sold-out 1st Cohesion Halloween Tribute Show at Dans Silverleaf, which featured Hand of Onan as Hole, MUGZU as Spinal Tap, and tributes to Ween and the Minutemen and the 2005 version with all star local musicians as Nirvana, The Frogs, Helmet, The Clash, Prince and more. Cohesion was also involved in putting on a day party showcase during SXSW 2005, which put a dozen quality Denton bands on their first stage in front of an Austin (and it turned out international) crowd.
Cohesions goals for their third upcoming year are to expand their reach regionally, with more Denton music showcases in Dallas, Fort Worth, Oklahoma, etc. They will also roll out a new website in Summer 2006 which will help them further their promotion of Denton music and art. And of course, Cohesion will continue to do work for charitable causes throughout the year.
