About Me

Chicago Dyke March Collective is a grassroots mobilization and celebration of dyke, queer, and transgender resilience. It is an anti-racist, anti-violent, volunteer-led, grassroots effort with a goal to bridge together communities across race, class, age, size, sex, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, culture, immigrant status, spirituality, and ability.
For the first time in its 12 year history of DMC took place successfully in 2008 in the neighborhood of Pilsen. It was the largest march with over 1,000-2,000 people in attendance. The location change occurred after a series of community meetings and events addressing the need for more spaces for LGBTQ (lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning and queer) people, particularly women and transgender people of color, in communities throughout the city. In future years DMC will be held in various neighborhoods around the city. The location will be discussed amongst community members through forums, as it was this passed year.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

We are looking for new organizers and volunteers for the march in 2009!

We are looking for organizers and volunteers to continue moving around the city, and do the education and outreach necessary in the community.

We are looking for LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexula, transgender, queer, questioning) womyn/ genderqueer/ trans/, or gender non conforming-identified individuals who believe in the mission and want to support our work. The time and level of commitment is completely up to you, including volunteering just for the day of the march, or as a marshal.

We are also already looking for performers!! Poetry, songs, spoken word, cheering, [short] speeches, dance, or any other kind of artistic/ socially-conscious performance is wanted. Contact us for more information.
