About Me

PUBLICATION: METRO PULSE
SECTION: CALENDAR
DATE: AUGUST 27, 2009
AUTHOR: MATTHEW EVERETT
LOCATION: KNOXVILLE, TN
TITLE: SPOTLIGHT: WILLIAM LEE AND THE MODERN PRIMITIVES

It seems fitting that a band whose debut album is called Lost Blues and Forgotten Ballads should be so mysterious&8212;the disc arrives in the mail with no credits, no lyrics, no bio, no press release, just a CD and a handbill advertising the group's upcoming show at Pilot Light. The music's like a blusier version of the Flat Duo Jets, definitely primitive, hillbilly guitar and shuffling drums played at psychotic intensity, the perfect accompaniment for songs about fear and the devil.
