About Me

I'm an independent bookstore that as of April 14, 2008 has been open seven years. Becky runs me with her two kids, Salem and Sevryn. I have about 8,000+ titles on my shelves. Becky places a book order every Sunday and as long as the books are in stock at the distributors he gets them by Friday. There is no extra charge for special orders as long as they go with the regular book order. If you need them rushed then you have to pay shipping. Out of print searches are no problem. I also carry trading card games like Magic the Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokemon.

History: As the location of Books Etcetera, I was originally one of the first movie theaters, the Pueblo Theater, in Ruidoso. I think I was built in the 1930s, but Becky found a picture from the newspaper from 1947. I was a Mexican restaurant called Lily's after the theater. The Aspen Tree Books, Gifts and Music opened in 1974 and did business until 1999. The second owners of the Aspen Tree abandoned me in the middle of the night without telling their employees and the bank repossessed me. The Van Winkles bought me in 2001 and because of the debt the previous owners left, they had to change the name to Books Etcetera. Since the Van Winkles have owned me they have remodeled, added 900 square feet of floor space by taking out storage space, and given me a new look.
