Seán Clancy is a composer born in Dublin in 1984 working mainly in the field of notated concert, theatrical, and acousmatic music.
Seán is currently a PhD candidate at the Birmingham Conservatoire under the supervision of Joe Cutler and Howard Skempton, with additional supervision from Philippe Leroux at the Université de Montréal. He has completed studies at University College Dublin (with Julian Horton and Wolfgang Marx) (Bmus 2006), Kings College London (With Robert Keeley, Silvina Milstein and George Benjamin) (Mmus 2008), and the Ecole Nationale de Musique, Aulnay Sous-Bois (with Philippe Leroux) (2008-2009). In addition, he has studied privately with Kevin O Connell (2005-2006), attended the Irish Composition Summer School encountering Martin O Leary and Simon Bainbridge (2006), as well as attending Master Classes with Ivo Malec in Paris (2009).
His music has been commissioned and performed internationally by artists including the Crash Ensemble, Fidelio Trio, Lontano, Dublin Guitar Quartet, Duo Vita, Ensemble ICC, Ergodos and The Curious Chamber Players, amongst others. His work has been featured at festivals such as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (2005) The Printing house festival of New Music (2007), the York Spring Festival (2008), and The Crash Ensemble’s Free State Series (2008). More recently, his piece Nothing/Worse was featured on Duo Vita’s February tour of Canada (2009). He has also been broadcast on RTE Lyric FM, BBC Radio 3, and the Web based station Global Soundtracks.
In addition to his main compositional pursuit, Seán has also written a number of scores for television documentaries and for theatre, and also performs as an electronic artist under the guise of The Musicfallacy. He is a founding member of the Irish Composer’s Collective, and a member of the Association of Irish Composers.
